Self Esteem: Loving Yourself

Creating a Relationship with Yourself

April Spencer
Self-esteem is a very important quality for a person to have. Without self-esteem you cannot live in harmony with your own body. Self esteem does not mean to have a large ego or to put your ego aside it plainly means to respect and love yourself. Your body is your own best friend. You, yourself know you more than anyone else can. It's a process of being your own best friend. How can you be your own best friend?

First step, to becoming your own best friend is to truly love yourself. To begin this process you must see yourself as irreplaceable. It is only your soul that can be within your body. If your soul does not co-exist with your body then there is a constant war going on between the soul and the body. This war creates and in balance within your self as well as a lack of respect. In fact, it may even create hate for your body.

There are many ways to love yourself and become your best friend. The first step among those many is to listen to yourself. Begin to keep a journal. If you keep a journal and listen to your every day thoughts, As you keep this journal you will not have your thoughts bottled up inside and you will feel much better about yourself and the world around you as you follow the pattern of your thoughts.

Secondly, start living in the moment, notice the beauty around you and let your life become real and alive right where you are. The past does not exist and the future is too far away to really matter. All we truly have is this moment and if you give this moment your attention you will not really feel like you missed out on anything. This attention to the moment will also help you see those loved ones around you for who they truly are as well.

Take a day off from work that is just for you. Be sure you have it as a scheduled day off and not just called in because not doing the right thing can also lead to low self-esteem. When you take that day off, make it a mini vacation. Go visit a friend you have not seen in a long time. Have a facial, get your nails done or get a massage. Do something special for yourself. Such as take a walk alone in a park and surround yourself with nature or go for a bike ride. Exercise will help you feel much better about yourself as well.
