Self Hypnosis Demystified

Affirmations and Visualization

Miles Tyler
We have all heard what a positive and transformational tool that self hypnosis can be, but how exactly does this happen? What is it about this process that can make it work so well for so many people?

In reality, self hypnosis is extremely simple and easy to master. It is a normal state of mind that everyone experiences on a daily basis. Daydreaming is a perfect example of this. People also get into a light trance as they are driving. It is that "automatic pilot" feeling that you get from time to time. This also happens when people are watching television or playing video games. Everyone enters a trance state before falling asleep at night too.

If you have ever read anything about hypnosis before you may already be familiar with the term "induction". An induction, to put it simply, is the procedure or set of steps that lead a person into the hypnotic state.
There are many different techniques for induction. The most common ones involve counting down or a step-by-step guided relaxing of the entire body from the top of the head to the tips of the toes.

Self hypnosis involves inducing a light trance on one's self and can be done with a variety of goals in mind. Some of these include but are certainly not limited to: relaxation, stress relief, and self improvement.
There are many ways of achieving a trance state including the use of hypnosis recordings and brainwave entrainment audio. These, however, are not necessary for achieving a trance state.

Self hypnosis is something that can be performed at anyplace at anytime.
Provided that you have a peaceful environment in which to practice it.

What you may not realize is that self hypnosis is just another name for meditation. There are many forms of meditation and self hypnosis is simply one of them. Meditation is usually about stilling your mind completely, but with self hypnosis you are centering your mind on something that you want to manifest in your life.

It is simply a process of relaxing the mind and switching one's negative thoughts with thoughts that are positive in nature.

Self Hypnosis Step by Step:

1.) Make yourself as comfortable as possible. Get into a sitting or reclining position whichever is preferable. If possible, dim the lighting.

2.) Lightly close your eyes and breath deeply from your diaphragm.

3.) Completely relax your body and as you do so remain aware of your breathing.

4.) When you are feeling completely relaxed, begin repeating the affirmation that you are wanting to impose upon your subconscious mind. Repetition of positive statements is a powerful tool for shaping the subconscious. When combined with creative visualization this can have an even more powerfull and profound overall effect upon the mind and body.

If you are serious about reaching whatever goals you are trying to achieve, then you really should practice this for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes daily until you receive your desired outcome. You never want to rush things though, so give yourself adequate time to achieve each goal. You must remember to use statements and goals that you can believe in. At first it may be a good thing to focus on self confidence boosting by repeating positive things about yourself. This will allow you to have the belief in yourself that you need to gain greater success.
