Sell Your Book Locally

AmyBrowne
Authors are you looking for a place to sell your books. It does not matter if you have a big publishing house behind you or a small press, you can find ideas here. Most of us authors need to push our own work to sell it, unless our names are Stephen King or Danielle Steele!

Local Craft Sales or Holiday Bazaars

These places are a great to sell copies of the books you worked so hard on. People have come to the event to purchase that special gift. How much more unique can you get than a book written and signed by a local author.

Small towns all around the United States have these sales around the holiday and it might just be the place for you.

Small non-franchise Gift Store

If there are small gift stores in your local area, see if they will carry your book. They can sell it on commission for you. The store selling your work can also benefit by carrying your book, as it may generate some traffic to the store for people wanting to purchase your book.

Online

If your book is currently for sale on Amazon, do you have an 'author' site, which also sells your books? Having a professionally done website allows your fans to find out more about you as an author. You can run special sales on the books or let your fans know upcoming book signing etc.

Be sure to have business cards printed up that include your web site, or the URL of your book on Amazon to pass out to interested people.

Specialty Buildings

Hospital gift shops often carry the books of local authors, and this is a great option for authors trying to sell their books locally.

Museums area great place to sell your book, if you write about history subjects.

If you write gardening books, ask the local nursery person if you can place your book at their location.

Visitor centers are great if you write a book, which covers the local area.

Truck Stops or Restaurants Gift shops can also be a good place to sell books, which have a local flare to them.

Your local library will often carry one of your books, call, and let them know it's out there. You can also donate a book to your library for patrons to sign out, if the patrons like your book they can get more if you include in your book where you can be reached.
