Selling Books and CDs for Extra Cash

Have you ever wondered how to make extra money without much effort? If you're like me, you have searched through many options, maybe even on the internet. Maybe that's how you found this web site. There are some "off line" money-making options available, and one of the ones I have found is selling my unwanted books and CDs to Half Price Books. This may not be the best way to make money, but sometimes those few extra bucks really do help you out.

I am a neat freak, and things in my house really do need to be organized. I have a big collection of books, growing all the time with the addition of new cookbooks and wedding books. CDs have lost their popularity, with the increasing popularity of iPods and downloading music from the internet. Therefore, books that I no longer read, and CDs that I no longer listen to, they just sit around and collect dust. Well, I hate dust, I hate clutter, and I hate things sitting around with no good use. That's how I found a solution to my problem - why not sell these things in for some money? And that's just what I did.

Half Price Books is a company that sells books for much less than you would find in other bookstores. The books you find in their stores are used, thanks to people like me who sell their books to them. I have found a lot of my favorite books at Half Price Books, especially great cookbooks and books that teach me about weddings. A lot of the books you can't find at Walden Books or Barnes and Noble can be found at Half Price. You can even find CDs there for a low price.

So if the idea of making money has interested you, here's what you have to do in order to sell your books and CDs. Collect the books and CDs that you don't want, put them in a bag or box, and find your nearest Half Price Books location. Go into the store and find their selling location - there will be a sign that hangs from the ceiling that says "sell your books here". It takes about 10-15 minutes for the employee to look through your books and/or CDs, check out the condition of each one, and determine a price they will offer you for each item. Remember, they probably will not accept any CDs that are scratched, and they won't accept books that are ripped and look like they've been through hell and back. So in the meantime, look around the store, you may find something you like. Once that time is up, you return to that desk. The employee will ask for your ID - keep in mind, you need to be at least 18 years of age to sell your items there. They ask you for your address and phone number. Next, they will tell you the amount of money they will offer you to buy your books and CDs. If this amount sounds like a good deal to you, you accept. They print out a slip that you will take to the main register, where another employee will take the slip and give you your cash in return. Not a bad deal. You just got rid of old books or CDs that you didn't want, and you made a few bucks from it! Hey, that's pretty good!

If you are not satisfied with the amount they offered you, take your books and leave. Sometimes, you may be disappointed if you walk in the store with a box full of books and you're only offered $10 for them all. This price depends on their need for the book, the space they have available for that book, and how many of those books they already have in the store. Sure, you may have a $30 book, but they may only offer you $2 for it, considering all of those factors. Don't be mad at them, that's the way they do business. However, if you have books that they are in demand for, and they have the space available for them, you may offered more money, such as $20-$30.

Don't expect a weekly income with this money making option, this is just a way to make some extra cash and clear out your book collection. I've made about $150 - $200 total over the years that I've been selling books and CDs. It's much better than just throwing them away, don't you think? Now get in your bookcase and weed out those books you don't want, and make a trip to Half Price Books today!

I just went through and cleaned 30 years of old books away. I kept those from my childhood and mother's childhood but some college text's absolutely were of no use....We burned them. I felt like a Nazi. Might as well get rid of them while they still have value.

That's my trouble. I spend all my PayPal $ on books. But I can never part with them. Good idea for those who could.

Thanks for such great info! I've got a stack of books I've been wanting to part with, but couldn't bear to throw them in the trash. Hopefully they'll bring in some money :)
