This advice comes directly from one artist's trials and tribulations while selling original art work on ebay.com. While they admit they're not an expert on the subject, they are able to speak with experience and authority on this topic. Selling art work on ebay.com isn't an easy task, so it's wise to listen closely to those who are going through it regularly and can offer sound advice.
2: Selling Art on Ebay, is it Worth Your Time?
This writer talks about how they went through the research process (searching artists, media, bids and so on) to see if there's reason why artists should or shouldn't sell their original art work on ebay. What all their work boiled down to is the fact that new or unknown artists might not have much success at selling their art for more than $50. This is a topic for debate, for sure.
3: How to Sell Your Art on Ebay
This a very basic (though, filled with very good links) article explaining how to sell your art on ebay. It doesn't offer first-hand advice about if your work will or will not sell, but it does uncover realities artists need to keep in mind when putting their art work on ebay.com for auction.
4: Artist Makes $25,000 on Ebay
I think every artist wants to see this kind of success from selling their original art work on ebay.com. (Myself included!) However, from what I've read, this artist has really made a name for herself and became a "known" artist. This boils down the fact mentioned in the summary above, that a well-known artist will have better success then a lesser known artist. Marketing is vital.
5: Online Art Sales
Here, we have another research article for those interested in selling their original art work on ebay.com pointing out what types of art sells the best, which items tend to receive the most bids and what type of artist tends to have more completed sales. This writer also points out several links of interest to help artists sell their original art work.
After reading all of this material, whether or not original art work should be sold on ebay.com really matters on how much marketing you're able (or willing) to do and how your work is priced seem to be the vital components to how many pieces will (or won't) sell. Listing auctions on ebay.com isn't enough. Looking at this from all aspects and treating this effort as a complete business will churn out better results.

Post a Comment...which I realize probably didn't exist when you wrote this article; I just want anyone who reads it these days to know!
I have tried this, and I find that eBay's skew toward the collector makes it worthwhile only to sell work by known artists. I am much happier with Etsy.com.
This is useful information, very good in fact. I must pass this along to my mother who is a great artist who sells paintings during art shows, she always asked me how to do it, now i can refer her to quality information. That and my friend about to graduate Rutgers, who was recently in a gallery. Its soo interesting !
Thanks for reading, Mary! :-)
Great article and tips.
