A Non-surgical Procedure to Reduce Wrinkles

Lisa White ISSA & AFPA CPT
Over the course of time, the beauty industry has boomed with new innovations from lip glosses to boost lip volume to surgery enhancements allowing both men and women to look twenty years younger. Each year there is a new form of the fountain of youth that is released to the mainstream and 2010 is no different. This year Selphyl has been introduced on the market for anyone who is looking to rejuvenate their skin and to create a more youthful appearance. So what is Selphyl?

Selphyl

A small portion of blood is collected from you and is then created into Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) which is used underneath the skin in the facial area or body. This matrix is used to help increase tissue volume and to rejuvenate the areas it has been deposited into. Selphyl is considered to be a natural treatment because it uses your own blood to promote cell re-generation and collagen production.

What is it used for

The procedure first began as a treatment for athletes who had soft tissue injuries to promote cell growth and healing but is now open to anyone who would like to have the procedure done. The Selphyl system has been introduced to the public as a wrinkle reducing, skin plumping, divot, furrow and acne scar filler that also works on post-operative scars.

Where is the procedure done

The procedure is done in the dermatologist's,surgeon's, or medical spa's office and is non-evasive so there is no down time. The service takes an average of twenty minutes and can reach the desired look with one visit. Depending on the results you prefer the decision for more Selphy procedures will be determined by the you and your doctor.

What about allergic reactions

As of yet, Selphyl has not had any side effects of the skin being "hard to the touch." Since Selphyl is created from your own blood it can be used by anyone without the worry of allergic reactions. There have been no reports of the injection sites becoming infected yet; as there's a strict protocol for the service.

How long does it last

Although the effects are not permanent they are lasting. After the PRFM has been injected the effects are noticeable within three weeks. The average cost of the procedure is $1100.

I was all set to run out and get this done until I saw the cost! Ouch! Although...a few more wrinkles and I may HAVE to do it! I never heard about this! Hope all is well with you, Lisa! :)

It should be interesting to see if it becomes popular and is still safe in years to come.
