Senate Bill S510-The Food Safety Modernization Act-might Make it Illegal to Grow, Share, Trade or Sell Homegrown Food
~Thomas Jefferson, 1781
I am in complete shock and am very sorry I did not hear about this sooner. I really wish I could have signed the petition against this bill. And believe me, if more of us had heard about it, I'm sure it wouldn't have passed so easily.
On November 30, 2010, the Senate passed the S 510 (now HR 2751) Food Safety Modernization Act, or S510 Bill with 73 votes yes, to 25 votes no (see complete tally here ).(See current status here. )
" The Senate supposedly passed this bill to "overhaul the nation's food safety rules". Shortly after it passed, it was pointed out the bill contains revenue raising provisions and the constitution requires bills that raise revenue to originate in the House. At this time, the strategy to move the bill forward was unclear . "-Congress.org
According to S510 -The Food Safety Modernization Act -a bill that is seemingly in answer to a supposed crisis that exists in food borne incidents, the facts tell us the opposite. -" Incident rates of food-borne illness have actually been declining for more than a decade, in spite of higher consumption of the raw foods that are most often associated with outbreaks of food-borne illness. " - www.petition2congress.com/3772/vote-nay-ons-510-fda-food-safety-modernization-act/
On the Open Congress Summary page of the HR 2751Bill they state the following:
"The bill would increase the FDA's regulatory authority over the food production system in order to prevent contamination and food-borne illness outbreaks. It would give the FDA mandatory recall authority, require food producers to have qualifying plans in place for identifying and addressing safety risks, require importers to verify the safety of all imported foods, and more. Small farms and food facilities that do less than $500,000 in sales annually and sell most of their food locally would be exempt from most of the new regulations in the bill. They've made the connections to Monsanto and the Rockefellers, and the move by elites to control every aspect of human life. They want us to eat chemically and genetically altered food. According to Food for Freedom the S 510 Food Safety Modernization Act in fact does the following: (see video here)
1. It puts all U.S. foods and U.S. farms under Homeland Security and the Dept. of Defense
in the event of contamination or ill defined emergency.
2. It would end all U.S. sovereignty over its own food supply by insisting on compliance with the WTO (World Terrorist Organization), thus threatening national security.
3. It would remove the right to clean, store and thus own seed in the U.S. and thus putting control in the hands of Mansanto and other multinational corporations threatening U.S. security.
4. It begins the final destruction of what is left of the U.S. economy
"It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one's choice. It will be unconstitutional and contrary to natural law or, if you like, the will of God. " - Dr. Shiv Chopra, Canada Health whistleblower
"It would criminalize seed saving turning backyard gardeners who save heirloom seeds into common criminals. This is obviously designed to give corporations like Monsanto a monopoly over seeds.
It would create an unreasonable paperwork burden that would put small food producers out of business, resulting in more power over the food supply shifting to large multinational corporations." read more at; area51blogging.com/
In addition, the Cornucopia Institute recently sent out an urgent call-to-action email containing the following information. You can do something about it.
To help stop things like this in the future:
1) Go to Congress.org and type in your zip code in the box in the upper right hand corner.
2) Click on your Senator's name, and then on the contact tab for their phone number. You can also call the Capitol Switchboard and ask to be directly connected to your Senator's office: 202-224-3121.
3) Once connected ask to speak to the legislative staff person responsible for agriculture, or whatever issue you wish to protest. If they are unavailable leave a voice mail message. Be sure to include your name and phone number.
" Remember, America has already lost control over its money supply to the Federal Reserve (nearly a hundred years ago). America has lost its health due to the medical industry and its profit-from-sickness agenda. Now we have lost our right to grow our own food and save our own seeds since this Senate Bill 510 passed. This is a dangerous, tyrannical law that will thrust the American people into an age of darkness and malnutrition. It would criminalize many of the very people growing our food and turn food production into yet another corporate monopoly " .- read more at; area51blogging.com/

Post a CommentMay the ungodly creeps that want us to starve and beg for food, be a receiver of the ills they wish on others.
Would you expect a bill any less than disgusting pushed by Sen. Dick Durbin, yet another well-known but useless Democrat who says the U.S. is as bad as the Nazis and Soviets? Recall that at the opening of the dedication of the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum (a Republican president) joked about his assassination saying “Judge Marovitz used to say that his mother believed that President Lincoln was Jewish, Durbin said. After all, his first name was Abraham, and then, to confirm it, she learned that John Wilkes Booth shot him in the temple.â€
Scary stuff. So many people save seeds for future crops. And the FDS can't even do its duties now... food company inspections are infrequent and inadequate
Wow. I hope Americans repeal this Big Business law. It would destroy the region I live in - here there are hordes of small producers growing fruit and veg, making cheese and olive oil and honey, raising rabbits... All for sale at local markets. There are controls, but they're sane and don't stop people making a living from wonderful and hugely varied local produce.
Super report. :-)
Natural foods and health supplements will be in grave danger if this passes. The FDA is controlled by pharmaceuticals and food giants.
I can't imagine that they'd ever the resources to enforce someting like this. I'll have to look into it too!
Dittos Nancy V. Canfield. This is where pleas for national health care lead. Allow government to enact laws that force citizens to support one private industry, and you'll get laws that force them to support another. What we need is a constitutional amendment requiring anyone who attempts to propose such a law to be deported.
I doubt that our government has the resources, manpower, or desire to police millions upon millions of home gardens.
One Word: Monsanto!
