Though Obama has the talent of coating every word with honey, the best line of the night belonged to John McCain and better yet , it was a classic Freudian slip when McCain referred to Obama as "Senator Government". No truer words were spoken last night, Senator Government. And perhaps these two words are the very phrase that defines once and for all who Barack Obama is. He is a man who thinks Government can and should take our money and put it to better use than the citizens can themselves. Judging from what the government is doing with our money now, Obama may want to rethink his basic philosophy before the people do it for him.
McCain made some salient points by reintroducing Senator Government to Joe Plumber, a man Senator Government wants to penalize for being rich like Warren Buffet, a man who because he's worked and saved and has finally earned enough to own his own plumbing business is now by the proclamation of Senator Government, put in the league of billionaire, Warren Buffett. Only a socialist , Senator Government would penalize and tax higher a hard working plumber and take more money from him inorder to spread the wealth to those who don't pay taxes at all. Of the 95% Senator Government plans to give tax cuts to, 40% currently pay no taxes at all. This neat little trick is a socialist tool of stealth, calling a rebate check a tax cut, allowing money from tax payers to be handed over to non-taxpayers. Obama claims 90% of all small businesses won't be affected by the increased taxes. Firstly, that is a lie. He is expecting us to believe most plumbers, electricians, restaurant owners, convenience store owners, doctors in private practices, building contractors, car dealership owners don't generate $250,000 in gross income? If they don't, they don't hire employees. If they don't, they don't stay in business. Obama has never run a business. Obama has never made payroll. Obama is clueless.
John McCain tried his best to contrast his lower tax, smaller government plan against Senator Government. McCain sorely lacks the gift of delivery but if words matter, like Obama claims, McCain's words were substantive and detailed, making sense for an economy that is in troubled times. Obama, consumate snake oil salesman, pitched his plan, glossing over all of the fine print, painting a rosey future for all except those evil rich people, of course. I guess Senator Government was sick the day they taught about Abraham Lincoln in school. Honest Abe once said, "you don't lift the wage earner up by tearing down the wage payer."
Obama claims to be champion of the middle class. Because Obama is a Harvard graduate who took his degree and applied it to a stint as community organizer in a poor neighborhood, he thinks he knows the struggles of the middle class. Senator Government, Joe Plumber is the middle class. Most of the middle class either owns a small business or works for a small business that will be hurt by Senator Government's "spreading of the wealth". Word to Obama, when there is no wealth to spread, the poor starve. Trickle Down economics may not work as fast in practice than on paper but Trickle Up economics goes against the very laws of economic physics. Trickle Up will not work no matter how much chain-cigarette smoke you blow or make-up mirrors you shine in different directions. You penalize Joe, Joe lets another plumber go. Joe makes less because Sam Contractor is in the same boat and hurting and doesn't have work to pass along to Joe because no one can afford the houses or additions Sam Contractor builds. Obama's tax plan will obliterate the middle class.
Obama moved on to his favorite passtime of demonizing the big companies, especially big oil who surely will pay through the nose in a Senator Government administration. Senator Government, I ask, who actually works at these big companies? The middle class worker, that's who. And if Senator Government taxes the big companies with heavier levies the big companies will still prosper, right? All the companies have to do is pass on these costs to the consumer. But what if the consumer can not afford to buy the goods at the higher prices because they've been let go by Joe Plumber who could no longer afford to pay them? The big companies suffer and let go of hundreds, maybe thousands of middle class workers. That's a good plan! Let's give that one a try! I reiterate, Obama's tax plan will obliterate the middle class.
The other major policy point centered around healthcare. McCain's plan makes sense but Obama's certainly sounds much more complete and encompassing, how surprising. Obama thinks his plan will help people like his mother who had cancer but could not pay for the treatments. I know folks in Ireland personally who have cancer. They have a plan like Obama's. They come here to America to get care. Figure that one out! Obama's healthplan is a nightmare for taxpayers and employers alike not to mention that many doctor's practices will be hurt by Obama's new tax plan causing health costs to rise not fall like the dear Senator claims. Senator Government serves up yet another Government program to screw the middle class. The topic went on to education. Like clockwork, Senator Government's answers were more money, more government. McCain is a supporter of vouchers, using the success of the D.C. program as cause to consider the model for more people. Take more power away from the government? "Pishaw" was Senator Government's sentiment as he threw his nose in the air and chuckling. When abortion was brought up McCain was staunch and clear. Obama hemmed over the late term abortion issue, parsing words regarding the health of the mother. He was decidedly dishonest regarding botched abortions and the baby's right to medical attention. None of this would have sway over the undecideds but good for the base of both sides to hear.
John McCain had a great moment in the debate when he declared he was not George Bush saying if Obama wanted to run against Bush he should have done so four years ago. I had wanted McCain to take that one step further and say though McCain is no Bush, Obama is Jimmy Carter, even more than Jimmy Carter is. There were several moments throughout the night that I wanted McCain to take an argument one step further but McCain chose to pass. The truth is, if the mainstream media were loyal to journalistic ethics, they would have flushed out, dissected and examined every aspect of Barack Obama during the primary season. Instead they gushed and swooned and wet their pants. The mainstream media has become a club of ideologues whose personal agendas trump the ideals of their profession. Objectivity is dead in mainstream media. Obama stands for the utopian, psuedo-intellectual, "we know better than the rabble" school of thought. The media eats that stuff up, fancying themselves in this elite toney crowd, cocktailing and hob nobbing being the substitute for family quality time. The media has taken the power of the free press and applied it to power over the people instead of providing power for the people. They tore down Hillary Clinton with no mercy all the while back lighting, key lighting and highlighting Obama, always from his good side. The fact that Obama is not 25 points ahead of McCain at this point is astonishing.
I would doubt many undecided voters declared allegiance immediately after the debate though I do think points and questions were raised that will lead the undecideds to investigate for themselves what the media will not. In all honesty, this is Obama's to lose. The polls are certainly closer than the reports but for a Republican, even a rogue Republican like McCain to win would be nothing short of a miracle. Still, the mere idea of an Obama, Pelosi, Reid presidency is enough to start praying hard. Miracles do happen.

Post a CommentVery good info. When you go for a small business loan, it is usually considered to be anything under $500,000 - which is twice as much as Joe will be allowed to make. Rather, he will be free to make it - but it will be taken away from him.
Amanda, You're right, the Senator Government remark was the funniest of the night. The second funniest was when Obama alluded that vouchers didn't work because there weren't enough of them... and then opposed them. He doesn't have to worry about schools though... his kids go to private school. He doesn't have to worry about housing either because his "friends" are always there to help him out. Quid Pro Quo. ofr course. Great Article!
Another excellent piece. I was thinking of writing about what the small business owner looks like. While my family (we're a small business) definitely doesn't reel in 250K a year, most small businesses do. For Obama to pretend that most small businesses will not be affected by his tax plan is ridiculous. The proof is in the pudding. Yet, so many are disillusioned. Great review. Now I regret not having watched the debate. I figured it'd just be more of the same. Im glad to hear McCain did "well", however I'll be surprised if he wins this. Sadly.
Excellent Observation, As Usual !!!!!!!
