Senator Obama Says Nation is in "Worst Economic Trouble Since the Great Depression"

Snidely Whiplash
I swear he said that! Who is he kidding here? Apparently there is some validity to the concept that "one's historical frame of reference begins with their birth."

Perhaps because Senator Obama was a child of 11 or 12 when, during the Nixon Administration things were so nutty in this nation that he, by executive order, installed a wage and price freeze. I was 15 & 16 then. I remember the wild inflation and concern over our economy. That time was the time of the Arab Oil Embargoes, the buying of limited gasoline on odd & even days depending on the last number of your vehicle license plate, and even more insanity to come.

The economy totally tanked. Ford took over as President in August, 1974 and things didn't improve one bit. Then came Carter, windfall profits taxes on oil, etc., and it got worse. By the end of Carter's four years the Prime rate was I believe 21%. Ya had to promise your first born to get a damned home loan in this country. It was rough man. Unemployment was very high, inflation really high, and obviously interest rates were astronomical.

So, what's that again Senator Obama? According to an Associated Press report in today's Washington Times Senator McCain called "for a high level commission to study the economic crisis," to which Senator Obama responded McCain was just "passing the buck." Now that's a very interesting characterization the Messiah employed. Isn't the left most always calling for an investigation about everything? Yet this time, when it's a Conservatives idea to do so, it's "passing the buck."

I find this interesting on many levels. Of course the first level is the shear hypocrisy of attacking McCain for the calling of a high level bi-partisan commission to address the economy. Since there is so much rumor and innuendo as to what's wrong with the economy, how bad it is, how long it will last, and what is it's cause, how can a bi-partisan commission to determine these answers be "passing the buck?" Like I said, isn't it always a Lefty squallin' that we need a high level commission to look into something or other?

Wouldn't our nation be fairly served if a non-partisan commission looked into the wherefores and gave all of us, Left & Right, the facts? All this election year sniping is not serving the US electorate very well. Despite one's partisan wishes there are absolute truths, and we need to find out what they are. I don't care who's fault it is - I just want to find out what the problem is, what caused it, how bad will it be and what can we as citizens, and as a nation do to turn this thing around.

The second major level on which I find this to be hypocritical in the extreme is the "damned if you do; damned if you don't" aspect. If McCain tried to address this on his own with no such input as a high level commission would supply, the naysayers will taunt him with the "go it alone" accusation. Yet, as Senator Obama has already characterized it, to dig deep and find solutions is to "[pass] the buck." "Damned if you do; damned if ya don't!"

Wasn't it the Lefties that always attacked Bush for their insistence that he "wasn't listening to the generals and going it alone?" Yet when a Republican tries to gather all the possible sources of info and get the experts opinions, this is "passing the buck." So when it comes to we Conservatives, go it alone or passing the buck are our only two options according to the naysayers. Don't ya just love 'em?

Another example of this incongruity from the Left most can be found in the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) UN report on the Iranian atomic enrichment program. If we recall correctly we find the Left up in arms because Bush said the NutJob was lying about uranium enrichment and its purpose. When the subsequent National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) came out last year the report said Iran stopped enrichment a couple years ago.

So fine, Bush was wrong? No, not at all. Turns out after our NIE last year, the IAEA came out soon afterward and corrected our NIE's report and said Iran IS still enriching uranium. So our NIE was wrong, but after the Left excoriated Bush and the IAEA's report came out, were there any apologies? Any "sorry Mate, we were wrong about that enrichment thingy?" If there was I damn sure missed it. And just for your further edification, the IAEA has just come out AGAIN and said Iran is lying, and that indeed they are enriching uranium, and they are altering missiles to carry atomic payloads..

So, I'm waiting on the apology. Long damn wait, huh?

And before any of you Brilliant Ones tell me I am off topic, check yourselves. I am dead on. No matter what a Conservative does, the liberal mouthpieces, Brilliant Ones all, will inform us that whichever way we go, we should have gone with the other choice. Go it alone, and we're wrong. Gather a commission, and we're wrong. Be decisive and we should have asked the generals. But if we ask the generals aren't we then showing a lack of decisiveness?"

Senator Obama, here's your ass; there's the hole in the ground. Can you differentiate between the two? Clearly according to your contradictory messages, you are having a real problem with that ass/hole in the ground thing, ain't ya, Oh Big Thinker?

I will conclude that having lived through this economy and the one in the 70's I have no doubt which was worse. But then again, unlike this Messiah, not only do I know my ass from the proverbial hole in the ground, but as well I have a damn firm grasp on the Great Depression and today's economic downturn, and the difference between the two. Senator Obama, I can assure you and all your little minions that the economy of the 70's makes today's economy look like boom times, and if you can't see that you are clearly NOT READY TO LEAD THIS NATION!

Obama is going to try to skate into the White House on this. Unfortunately, people are going to want change and they don't realize that Obama has no real plans for getting us out of this. Scary, really. Well written, Snide!

Election years will always bring out those that can find fault with EVERYTHING that the current admnistration is doing. Obama is lucky, he hasn't had to make any of his plans or positions clear... people are too busy being mesmerized to see that the man is all hat and no cattle. I have to wonder where his advanced(?) knowlege of economics comes from. Did I just imagine this, or is it true that Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac gave 85.000 to Obamas campaign?

nothing is worse than the inflation in australia which is at 46% ... and by the way while it's not exactlyt he oil crisis of the 70s it's pretty bad and banks and lending companies are closing, people are removing their money from banks left and right--that is how the last great depression started
