Mornings can be hectic for parents and children. Stop stressing in the mornings and create a calm environment for your children. Your child will learn better and be more successful at school if they start their day calm and focused. These tips and tricks will help you send your child to school feeling calm and ready to learn. Help your child and their teachers by trying some of these tips.
Forget the sugary cereals. I know how hard it can be to tell your child they cannot have the colorful, delicious cereal that is obviously marketed towards kids. Stay strong and just say no. Cereals with a ton of sugar are horrible for kids. They give children quick, hyper energy which crashes before lunch. Have your child start their day with a nutritious breakfast that combines protein and carbohydrates. A great choice is a peanut butter and banana bagel or boiled eggs with fresh fruit.
Work off some of your child's energy before school. My child is under responsive to proprioceptive input. This means that he needs extra physical stimulation in order for his mind feel organized. Even if your child does not have special needs they can benefit from some physical activity before school. You may think that doing these exercises will get your child more worked up, but it will actually help them stay calm at school.
Have your child lay on the floor, tummy down. Pick up their feed and wheelbarrow walk them around the house. If you have a mini trampoline, have your child do a few quick jumps on it before the bus comes. Jumping jacks are also a great way for your child to wake up and calm their minds.
Prepare everything the night before. When you keep a calm atmosphere in the morning your child will feel calm. Scrambling around to get things ready in the morning can cause your child to feel anxious. Make lunches the night before and put them in the fridge so they are ready to go. Help your child pick out their outfit for the day and lay it out before they go to bed. When everything is ready the night before, you have more time to enjoy the morning.
Talk about your child's goals for the day. Take some time each morning to focus with your child on their goals for the day. This will help center your child and remind them of their purpose at school. Make sure to talk about one or two things your child can look forward to during the day. For instance you might tell a young child that today they will see their best friend at school, have strawberries at lunch, listen during music class, and run as fast as they can during their gym class.

Well said!
What an excellent job and I love the wheelbarrow suggestion. Having been a kid, mom and teacher, I value all of this advice and wonder if we should start every adult's life out with a bit of wheelbarrow technique in the morning, as well.
Another sterling job Loki. What a great idea about using up some of their energy before school especially since some schools are eliminating recesses (a very bad idea by the way).
Very thoughtful and caring approach to helping your child begin the day in a calming atmosphere. Excellent! rcj
Awesome advice, some of the best mornings were when we knew she'd miss the bus and we took our time finishing up and then had a lovely conversation as I drove her to school :) cheers! (p.s. seems like yesterday - she's in college now! LOL)
Good suggestions
