Audio files like MP3 or image files are more difficult to send via a standard e-mail account. Most of these files are between 4 and 8 megabyte. There is obviously a difference between sending several files or sending an entire batch of files. Some mp3's and some photo files can still be sent via e-mail. E-mail usually fails from 4 to 5 megabytes. Video files can quickly become 500 megabytes to several gigabytes in size and can not be send via e-mail.
Want to know how big these files are, go to the folder where you saved these files and look into the "Details" folder. Another option is to click on the file and select "Properties".
Different methods for sending large files
The main methods for sending large files are:
*FTP or File Transfer Protocol
*P2P networks
*Live SkyDrive
*Upload Sites
FTP or File Transfer Protocol
An efficient way to transport large files, is by using the FTP protocol or file transfer protocol. This protocol is widely used to put sitecontent on a web server. But it also can be used to transfer music and video files on a server. Most ISPs offer free web space. For placing data on an FTP server, we need an FTP client. A very popular program is Filezilla on http://filezilla-project.org.
Tip1: Through some chat programs like Windows Live Messenger, you can park files temporary until the recipient logs in again and downloads them.
P2P networks
Many of you have heard of peer-to-peer networks like BitTorrent and Utorrent. They are best known for the illegal downloading and sending of files. The original plan however was to developpe system to easily share large files with each other. The principle is as follows. Use a micro torrent like Utorrent online. Send the torrent to the receiver and let him download the files through the same program. BitTorrent is very easy to upload and download large files.
TIP2: Via the Flickr photo site, you can post your photos online that can be downloaded by your recipients.
Live SkyDrive
If you have a live Windows free account, you can use the free service Live SkyDrive. This service allows you to put your multimedia files on your own Windows Live Messenger storage server and send them to other people. In total, you can storage for about 25 gigabytes of data what is spectacular. Go to http://skydrive.live.com and make your own storage place.
Upload Sites
There are many upload sites you can use to send large files. These include:
Transferbigfiles, YouSendIt, SendSpace, Casta and Drop File Send. They all work according hetzelde principle:
*Upload the files you want to send.
*Enter the e-mail address of the recipient.
*The recipient receives a link that you must click. The files are automatically downloaded to your hard drive.
*You will have access to the files for a few days.
