Send a Valentine's Day Package to a Soldier

Ideas for a Valentine's Theme Care Package

Kellen Cooper
Sending packages to soldiers abroad may help brighten their day. If you don't know any soldiers who are serving abroad right now, please consider adopting one. You can read this article "How to Adopt a Soldier" to learn how.

Putting together a themed care package to send can be both fun and challenging. It is fun to pick out cute Valentine's Day items from among the sales and displays, but the challenge is to make sure the stuff that you include in your package is what a soldier might want. Don't include of poor quality simply because it fits in with the Valentine's theme!

Cards and Envelopes

Your soldier may appreciate receiving a few blank Valentine's Day cards, along with envelopes, so that he or she can mail them to their friends and family. To make sure that they received the cards in time, mail the package several weeks before the holiday. Soldiers do not need stamps to send mail, so spend your money on more cards rather than buying stamps.

Hand Made Valentine's Card

Don't forget to include your own card! A handmade card can be cute and fun to make. You can also ask your friends or family members to make their own cards to go in the package.

Candy

What would Valentine's Day be without candy, especially those little candy hearts?! Chocolates are okay to send, as this is a winter holiday. Shipping chocolate to the Middle East in the middle of summer doesn't work out quite so well!

Valentine's Day Teddy

A teddy bear isn't essential, but a small one can make a cute and touching gift. While a teddy bear may not be appreciated as much as something edible, it may warm the heart. However, don't buy a bear so big that you can't fit any beef jerky in the package too!

Regular Treats and Snacks

Don't be afraid to break off from the Valentine's Day theme to fill your soldier's box with everyday goodies. If you know your soldier loves Goldfish crackers and Men's Health magazine, don't leave those out!

According to Soldier's Angels, some popular items to send to soldiers include: beef jerky, Slim Jims, nuts, trail mix, Chex Mix, Gatorade powder, books, and magazines.

Again, you can read about adopting a soldier in my article " How to Adopt a Soldier ." Any money I make from my articles does to cover some of the costs of the packages I send to my own adopted soldier, so thank you for reading!
