Senior Moment

Shirley A Mandel
Senior citizens today live longer, healthier lives than ever, but there is still a ways to go to improve the lives of seniors. There is still rampant descrimination in the work place, and those who are very aged or infermed are institutionalized in nursing homes, often against their wills.

As a young senior of 50 plus years, I think I have a lot of wisdom to offer young people, especially Christain youth.
I have learned thoughout the years that it is not all about me, but it is entirely about Him. And I thank God for all the humiliations of my life both small and great that have taught me that. I thank God for a serious mental disease that carries with it an age old stigma; I thank Him for all the terrible hospitals and demeaning treatments I have had to endure.

I also thank Him for the lesser humiliations of the recent past, for not being able to enjoy some of the more prestigious venues that other writers have enjoyed, not even the more prestigious venues of my local writer's group (I've been left out of a few things).

That's OK. Prestige does not belong to me. It belongs to Christ. I can't save anybody anyway ; that's God's work alone. All I am is an ambassador representing Christ and His Kingdom, and an ambassador does not receive the honor of a KIng, but his Leader and his country get the honor.

So to God be all the glory. This is the wisdom of the ages.

I enjoyed your article. I'm officially a senior at 64, also Christian. I can definitely relate to the thoughts expressed in your article.

You seem just a little too young to be using "senior moments" :) Well done

This is very nice. I, too, don't think of you as being a senior. You seem so energetic and positive.

So glad for your testimony ... I have had similar experiences, and yet, without them I would be paying lipservice to Cjrist Jesus. Suffering takes oneCross in full 'understanding and - in the best sense of the term - imitation of Christ" Amen and Shalom
