Senior Women, Get the Hair Style You Want

Janice Meyer
Hair styles for senior women do not differ much from hair styles for average women. Although a senior woman's hair style can make a huge difference in her appearance, she must also be happy with what she sees in the mirror.

• I do not believe senior women should have to wear their extremely short. If they want to try a more trendy style, I say, 'Go For It.' On the other hand, I don't like to see senior women with their hair long and unkempt. Right now I am in a 'trying out' state with a hair style I admire in a lot of other women, both young and old. I like the style where the hair in back is usually cut short in layers, and the sides are left to grow longer, slanting forward toward the face. The sides kind of peak out at the ends. Usually, there are bangs cut with this style.

• My hair is almost at the proper length, with the sides about half-way over my ears. I still feel that my stylist should shorten the back a little more. This is one style I feel would work for any senior woman. If you want a few curls, that can be done also. Perhaps you can curl the shortest hair in back (at the top layer) into small longated sqiggly curls, or flipped under. You can also turn the ends of the sides under or flip them up. Since I frost my hair, I am going to frost the ends of those same strands at the top layer in back.

• There is always the short and simple 'Pixie' hair cut, and you can do a few different designs with it. If you like bangs, be sure to try them with the pixie. You can have sides that peak out just in front of your ears. You can wear the pixie completely straight, or tossle it and make it look like it might be naturally curly. A good product for tossling your pixie is Aussie's Scrunch. You wash your hair and then apply Scrunch and tossle. Leave it dry before combing, then run your fingers through and it should look 'tossled.'

• Color is another idea that can give you a new look. If your hair is a gray shade you do not feel good about, try brightening it up with a white or silvery shade, or perhaps try a light golden brown color. Then you might want to have it cut with longer, thicker bangs and a kind of short tappered style all around. You can comb the bangs to left or right, for a varied look.

• If you want a true simple style, so that all you have to do is shampoo, dry completely or towel dry, comb and go, get it if your hair is thick enough or if you have tried this before and liked the style. This style could be varied with longer hair in back (collar length), or let it grow to all one length, but keep at that same collar length This is definitely an easy-care style.

• Why not try a curly style? If you want a curly-all-around style, you will probably need a permanent. Perms are much safer to have now than in the past. It is best to have a professional hair stylist give you a perm. That would be a good idea if you want curls everywhere. Some curly styles are adorable, and I wish I could try one. My hair is fine, so it doesn't do well with a perm - mostly frizz. Or, you could try a body perm, as they give your hair more body, but not as much curl as an ordinary perm.

These all sound great. The style I don't like is the old-fashioned wash and set. It looks like a big cotton ball on the person's head! I love these stylish ideas. I'll probably always have long hair to hide a terrible scar on the back of my neck.

I never thought of a specific hair style for senior women. I just style my hair the way I want.;)

I've been letting my hair grow long...can put it up in a ponytail now so it's great for summer heat! Just cut some layers into it and there's so many ways to style it so I'm loving it. :)
