Senseo Recalls Coffeemakers Made in China & Poland

Check the Site to See If Your Senseo Coffeemaker is Affected by Recall

Carly Hart
According to the Senseo website, the company is issuing a recall on specific Senseo coffeemaker modelsmade in China and Poland within recent years. The Senseo coffeemaker recall stems from potential electrical problem, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. In addition, the recall listed on the CPSC site also cites a build up of calcium due to use of hard water can cause an obstruction, possibly leading to the boiler bursting, a burn hazard. 17 consumers in Europe experienced a burst boiler, resulting in 6 reported incidences of first degree burns.

The recall hits home for me because we own two units and have been able to determine that at least one is not subject to the Senseo recall. Particularly disturbing is that Senseo often runs friends and family programs, so participants should forward recall information to any friends or family that they referred through a loyalty program. I have had to forward the Senseo recall information to most of my family because of participation in several such programs.

Is your Senseo part of the recall?

According to the manufacturer's website, coffeemakers bearing model numbers HD7810, HD7820 and HD7832 are potentially hazardous. The next step in determining whether or not your coffeemaker is subject to the Senseo recall is to check the country of origin. Senseos manufactured in Poland and China are suspect. If your coffeemaker was made in China or Poland, proceed to determining the production date. For coffeemakers made in China and Poland, look to the bottom right hand corner of the product label on the bottom of your machine. For my machine, at least, the production date was not readily determined by viewing the label. To learn how to read your product label for the purposes of determining whether or not your Senseo coffeemaker is subject to the recall, please see link sourced below. The production code was what ultimately disqualified my machine, a huge relief for my coffee loving spouse. He now has to check the unit he keeps at work.

What to do if your Senseo coffeemaker is subject to recall

Once consumers proceed through the form online to determine whether their machine is subject to the recall, the screen will display whether or not their machine is an affected unit. In that case, they will be directed to a site to provide information so that Senseo may ship them a replacement, along with the pre-paid box to ship back the recalled unit. Consumers affected by this recall should discontinue using their unit. Replacements will be sent out and should be received within six weeks.

The arrogance of this company that thinks they can replace my stainless steel unit with a cheap black one. I say class-action lawsuit and then we'll use our winnings to buy everyone a Breville K-Cup system!!!!!!

Hi, Yes, mine is being recalled. I spent 125.00$ on my model in stainless. The company wants to send me the black 50.00$ model in return. If they send me a black one they will be receiving a gutted out black one in return and lots of loose parts where I switched the insides out. Everything in my kitchen is stainless and will stay that way. I think they, Sara Lee Company, should send a replacement model that is the same or better than the item being returned. Eric

Great info! Makes you wonder: they can send a man to the moon, but they can't make a coffee maker that won't burn you...geez...
