One WordPress plugin we highly recommend is the Google XML Sitemap, which notifies the major search engines whenever you update your site with fresh content.
WordPress also has a default notification feature called Ping-O-Matic, which automatically notifies popular Update Services whenever you update your site by sending a XML-RPC ping.
The Update Services process the ping then update their proprietary indexes with your update. People that are browsing sites like Technorati or Sphere are then able to find your latest or updated posts and pages. With WordPress XML-RPC Update Services, your posts will reach more web users at a much faster rate than the traditional route of search engine spiders crawling and indexing your updated content.
The option to alert Ping-O-Matic can be found in the Settings/Writing/Update Services section in the WordPress admin panel, which defaults to http://rpc.pingomatic.com.
You want to make sure that your web hosting allows the PHP functions used to alert update services. If your web hosting disables pings, try using FeedBurner's PingShot service. PingShot maintains a constantly evolving list of content update services that it pings whenever content updates on your site are detected. You must enable the PingShot service in your FeedBurner account.
Kinking Up Your WordPress XML-RPC Content Update Services
GET FOUND NOW has our own constantly growing and evolving list of content update services that notify their indexes across the globe. Once we install the Google XML sitemap and our own proprietary list of XML-RPC ping services, your WordPress blog will become a "SEO powerhouse" and take off like a "rocket" in the SERPs.
When GET FOUND NOW publishes an article, we get anywhere from 1200 - 1800 spiders crawling our website! Without a Google XML Sitemap or a boost to your WordPress Update Service, you will not get anything close to that kind of activity.
Don't rely on the "spider crawling and indexing old fashion way." Give your WordPress XML-RPC Content Update Service a boost with additional ping services and install a Google XML site map. You will increase your search engine placement, reach out to more people in a shorter amount of time and be amazed at the before and after difference in your site stats!
