I was really dying to find a great shade of purple lipstick and it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Even though I wanted a shade that resembled the actual cool toned purple of an actual plum, all of the plum lipsticks I found had more red tones in them, so they looked more burgundy or wine colored, which wasn't what I was looking for.
So one weekend I decided to check out Sephora to find what I was looking for. After searching through a dozen or so lipsticks by various brands I was still having no luck, so I checked all of the Lip Attitude Chic lipsticks by the Sephora brand, which come in very chic all-black tubes, and I actually found a purple shade called Splendid Violet # 11, which Sephora.com describes as a deep plum.
Splendid Violet looks like a creamy deep, vampy purple in the tube, which is exactly what I was going for. I was so happy that I bought a tube for $12 without even trying it on.
When I tried on Splendid Violet # 11 later on that evening I saw it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but I was pleased with the results. On my lips the color is not as dark as it appeared in the tube, it's a couple of shades lighter and it has some slightly noticeable red tones.
But this Lip Attitude shade definitely looks purple it reminds me of a deep berry or grape shade (and it actually smells like grapes), it's not quite as vampy as I hoped, but it's quite fun & yet still fierce and sophisticated. So I really liked it.
The only thing that I didn't enjoy about this Sephora Lip Attitude Lipstick was the texture. I prefer matte or creamy lipsticks, and Sephora describes their Lip Attitudes in the Chic collection (there's also the Star & Glamour varieties) as "moist, semi-glossy looking, long-lasting lip colors."
It does look semi-glossy, which is fine because I think it works with the fun, exuberant look of Splendid Violet. But I found this lipstick to be very slick; it has an oily, lip-balm feel that made it difficult to apply an even looking layer to my bottom lip. The color wouldn't hold, it just slid right into the lines of my lip or to the edges of it.
In order to get the lipstick to stay I had to blot the color on with my finger, which made the bold Splendid Violet look faded, so I decided to apply a creamy nude lipstick as a base. It helped the Sephora Chic Lip Attitude go on evenly, and it even made the color look truer.
In the End...
Although I'm still on the look-out for a very deep purple shade of lipstick, I am currently satisfied with the Sephora Chic Lip Attitude in "Splendid Violet # 11." It's a pain to apply, but I really like this color its fun & cool. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
