September

Louisa Burgess

The smell is of fresh paint
wood waxed floors and chalk
the first days of school are here
it's a fine day for a walk

Lingering summer memories
of volley ball games on the sand
long days of sun almost past
a sure sign that autumn is at hand

The month of September is
bittersweet yet full of promises new
a slight wind blows leaves still green
up above the sky still mostly blue

September please stay longer
warm and wistful and bright
stay around for Indian summer
and briskness through the night

If it wasn't for the chilly weather we were having, one might think it was Spring here the last few days!

I liked this one. I like when you read something of value, you have to read it again, and sometimes again. I like the imagery, as well, it takes me there.
