September is Hug a Texas Chef Month

September is Hug Texas Chef Month. Is the size of Texas lost on some folks? Have they realized just how big Texas is and how many chefs we claim to have? Especially since, being from Texas, it is all about being able to season and to use a grill. Most people could state they are or know a Texas chef.
Why, I know the world's best cook, not just in Texas.

For our parents' anniversary one year, my sister and I had aprons made for them. One said 'World's Greatest Cook' and the other one said ' I Try'.
Can you guess to whom which gift was presented? Most people would 'assume' that the "World's Greatest Cook" was our mom. Have you not been taught about what happens when one assumes? That assumption is false. Our father is the chef.

The man has never made a bad meal. The man has never followed a written recipe. He can concoct anything from just about anything.

He knows our favorites and he makes them special for us whenever we come home to visit. When he comes to visit us, he stocks our freezers with our favorites as well.

His favorite saying is "This is just something I throwed together!" and even as I cringe at the grammar (his idea of a joke), my mouth is watering at the delectable flavors and aromas.

The man can cook. My mom not only married for love, she married smart.

Being a great chef means cooking recipes people will want repeatedly. That is what he does.

Nevertheless, I do not think the Texas Chefs Association meant for everyone to only hug my father this month. Do you? Of course not.
A Texas Chef is a certified member of the Texas Chef Association. What does it mean to be certified?

Certification avows skills as well as increases expectations for the profession. It can provide a career path where one might not have been able to ascertain clearly. Certification empowers a chef as well as validates all Texas Chefs.

What is the mission of a Texas Chef?

To interchange information amongst chefs, to promote great chefs, to discover and encourage new chefs. The mission of each Texas Chef comes down to sharing with others and providing Texans (and others) with great tasting, wonderfully prepared food.

After reading and researching into the Texas Chef Association, I am going to have to rethink the whole -we all can claim to be or know a Texas Chef. Yes, indeed, I am going to have to hunt down certified Texas Chefs to hug.

The people to whom I prefaced this article would not share grilling or seasoning secrets. Being a great chef means being entitled to kitchen secrets. Why do you think that our daddy fills our freezers whenever he comes to visit as well as loads our coolers to the brim when we come to stay? Because he does not share the recipe. Remember it was just something he "throwed together"!
