Serena Williams Laughs Off Wardrobe Malfunction
Tiger Woods is Probably Happy that Serena Williams is Making News Again
It's not surprising that Serena Williams was able to laugh off the incident. In October, she had posed nude for ESPN's Body Issue. Slideshows of her ESPN shoot are available at Huffington Post.
Serena Williams' Wardrobe Malfunction: Other Controversies
Serena Williams' wardrobe malfunction comes just after she was slapped with a record $82,500 fine for her tirade at the US Open. During her semifinal match against Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams had verbally assaulted a line judge over a foot fault call two points from the match. Serena Williams had threatened to "shove a tennis down ball down her F. throat."
According to Chicago Defender, Serena Williams will also face a probationary period at the tennis' four major tournaments for the next two years. If she can pass two years without another "major offense," her suspension will be lifted.
Serena Williams Wardrobe Malfunction: Much Ado About Nothing?
While I am no fan of Serena Williams, the wardrobe malfunction was not that big a deal. In many countries it's quite acceptable to go topless or even nude at a beach. Nudity doesn't seem to have the cultural stigma abroad that it has in the states. Besides, there's a difference between a wardrobe malfunction and blatant exhibitionism.
I imagine Tiger Woods would be pleased about the Serena Williams wardrobe malfunction. If anything, it takes the media spotlight off his personal troubles. It's a bit ironic that the media is currently so fixated on Tiger Woods' affairs. Tiger Woods is an extraordinarily private figure. Why harass him when there are so many celebrities and wannabes who welcome media attention? Then there is Serena Williams who just has a knack for making headlines without trying.
