In New York City on the upper east side sits a place that blends restaurant, general store, coffeehouse as well as soda fountain all rolled into one. They call it Serendipity 3 and they are known for their famous frozen hot chocolate or how they like to refer to it, Frrrozen Hot Chocolate!

Just exactly how famous is this hot chocolate? Well so famous that it was a favorite for the likes of Marilyn Monroe as well as Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Jackie O. began frequenting the popular caf when she was just the wife of a senator. It is said that she fell in love with the delicious dessert so much that she requested the recipe for the frozen hot chocolate to serve guests at the one and only, White House. Creator and owner of Serendipity 3, Stephen Bruce refused to divulge his well kept secret recipe (clout makes no difference here) but of course offered the First Lady another option. Bruce agreed to travel to the White House himself and prepare the delicious dessert for the guests. Jackie O. had no other choice but to take Bruce up on his offer. Alas it was not to be, the date came too quickly and he couldn't get security clearance. What's a First Lady to do?

Serendipity 3's Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is also a favorite of the queen of talk shows, Oprah Winfrey herself. The venue was featured on her show back in 2004. The episode featured celebrities' favorite foods and the frozen hot chocolate was Oprah's. She along with Colin Cowie (well known party planner) were shown enjoying the delectable dessert.

Stephen Bruce, Calvin Holt along with Preston 'Patch' Carradine had a dream that became a reality many moons ago. The year was 1954 and Serendipity 3 opened it's doors for the first time to the public. It was an instant success. Andy Warhol was a frequent visitor and believe it or not paid guests' checks with his drawings!

I digress, so let's get back to the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. How did it originate? Well the three founders were confessed chocoholics and they thought they needed a chocolaty dessert that would knock the socks off their customers. So they experimented to their heart's content until they came up with the now famous heavenly dessert.

The end result was 14 chocolates and cocoas mixed to perfection with ice and decorated with chocolate shavings and freshly whipped cream. Scrumptious! Much to the delight of fans of this tantalizing dessert, they can now create this dish in their own homes. After 50 years, the top secret recipe was finally revealed for all to enjoy.
