Serene Gardens in Glencoe, Illinois

Several years ago, my son, who is Autistic, and I visited the beautiful Chicago Botanical Gardens. The Gardens are located in Glencoe, IL.

The first time we visited, we happily wandered the grounds looking at large WOODEN bugs that were on display while enjoying the beautiful flowers.

The second time we visited, with my new husband, we had the pleasure of seeing a complete train setup made completely of wood, as well. It was very, very nice. My son thoroughly enjoyed his visit there.

The grounds are breathtaking when the flowers are in bloom. There are multiple gardens to enjoy, too. My personal favorite is the Waterfall Garden and the Japanese Garden. There is also a very nice English Rose Garden.

I believe that my son enjoyed the Japanese Garden area as well. There is something very serene about a place like that. It demands the utmost respect for this ancient and revered culture.

He was very calm during most of the visit. Some children with Autism can't handle the bugs and such, but for those that can and do love nature, I would recommend the Gardens to them. It is usually quiet enough not to over stimulate them, and the beauty of it, is sure to encourage them to point things out to you if they are verbal.

The main thing that I love about this place is that, at the time, it was only $10 for a carload of people. They also have a nice little gift store inside.

It's definitely worth a visit!
