PhotoPlus 6 is a basic photo editing program. It would be a great program for beginners because it is very user friendly and self explanatory. In this program you can edit photos, apply effects to photos, add text, and more. In this review I will cover some of the things that you can expect to find in PhotoPlus 6.
Registering Your Software
You must register PhotoPlus 6 to use the software. The registration is free but you have to go through about five steps to register and will need to provide a valid email address so Serif can send you a registration key. I wasn't too keen on registering but grudgingly did so anyway. I attempted to register several times but the email containing the registration key never arrived to my Inbox. After searching the support section of Serif's website, I learned that white listing (or adding to my list of trusted email addresses) donotreply@freeserifsoftware.com could put an end to this problem. Alternatively, Serif advises that you temporarily disable your spam filter. After trying the former option, I received the long awaited email with the registration key.
Interface
When PhotoPlus 6 opens, you will be presented with an interface that will show the different features PhotoPlus 6 has to offer. On the interface you have the option of creating a new picture, opening saved work, creating an animation, import your photos, and viewing samples. You can click one of the choices to get started.
Photo Editing Tools
PhotoPlus 6 offers several photo editing tools. Some of the tools that you will find in PhotoPlus 6 are the cropping tool, adjust the color tool, brightness tool, and the resizing tool. Some of the tools can be found in the toolbar on the left of the program. The other tools can be found under the Image menu at the top of the program. Most of the tools only require a couple of steps, so editing is easy with this program.
Effects Tools
In PhotoPlus 6 you will find your basic effect tools like distortion, blur, edge, and rendering. However, two popular effects used when editing photos are the black and white effect and the sepia tone effect. These two options are not available in PhotoPlus 6. You can, however, manually create black and white or sepia images by adjusting the color balance but there is no simple "one click" option.
Text Tool
PhotoPlus 6 offers a very basic text tool. There is nothing fancy about the text tool and is very straight forward. You can add text by clicking the T icon in the toolbar and clicking the photo. A text box will open and you can type your text and change the options at the top of the text editor. If you're looking to create fancy text, this program isn't what you are looking for.
Overall, I will give PhotoPlus 6 five stars. For a free photo editing program, PhotoPlus 6 has a lot to offer. However, I did find the registration process to be rather frustrating. You can download PhotoPlus from their website. To visit their website, please click here.
