I found my Serta Perfect Sleeper at my local Big Lots store. Before Big Lots came to my area, I wasn't too familiar with their furniture department, let alone their mattress selection. I was shocked to see a brand-name mattress at such a good price. I purchased the set, both mattress and box spring, for $499 (plus tax). Along with the set, I received a free Serta down alternative comforter! I recommend buying the set, since the box spring is made to support the mattress that comes with it. An old box spring could cause unusual wear on the mattress, thus voiding the 10 year Serta warranty.
What I like about my Serta mattress is the fact that I do not have to flip it to maintain its shape. The mattress doesn't require flipping, which is nice because it is really heavy. But if you want to flip it, by all means, flip. It couldn't hurt, and it can increase the mattress's overall lifespan. I also like the fact that this mattress has what Serta calls "convoluted pressure relieving foam", which helps support your body and reduces the tossing and turning a lot of people deal with. This "foam" also keeps the stress off of your pressure points, allowing you to be comfortable all night long.
The Serta Courtland Plush Perfect Sleeper mattress also has a continuous innerspring inside, with many coils running from head to toe, meaning there is one piece of metal, shaped into a bunch of coils. The more coils in a mattress, the better support you will get. Along with the innerspring coils, this mattress has a Stabl-Base Foundation, which helps keep the mattress quiet when you move around in bed, and you will not disturb your sleeping partner. This is a really nice feature, because I'm up a lot at night, and do not want to wake my boyfriend up with all of my movement.
When I brought the mattress home and set it up on my frame, I didn't realize it was such a thick mattress, measuring 13 inches in height. My regular sheets wouldn't fit it, so I had to buy deep pocketed sheets instead. It seriously didn't seem that high in the store, but when I set it up, I felt like I could almost reach the ceiling while lying in bed! This isn't so bad anymore, and we've gotten used to the height. I'm just thankful I haven't rolled off the bed, because it's quite a fall to the floor.
Serta gives you a 10 year warranty with this mattress, to replace or repair it if ever needed. A few things to keep in mind, your warranty will not be any good if there are stains or tears in the mattress. Handle it with care, and use a mattress cover or pad. Covers can be found just about anywhere, like Walmart or Bed Bath and Beyond. They are not too expensive, depending on the size of your mattress. A Queen cover can be about $70, but it's definitely worth the money to protect your investment. A cover will only protect against moisture and spills, so you need to take extra care with sharp objects around the bed. (Not that I think anybody would have scissors or a knife in bed, of course, it needs to be said). Tears and punctures will void the warranty as well. The warranty does protect your mattress against unusual wear. For example, if your mattress starts to form a "crater" where you sleep after the first month, it should be replaced.
If you are in the market for a new mattress, consider buying a Serta Perfect Sleeper, more specifically, the Courtland Plush Perfect Sleeper. If Big Lots isn't your store of choice (although it should be), you can try Mattress Discounters, Levin Furniture or any other mattress/furniture store. I've had my mattress for about 4 months now, and I've never been more comfortable in bed until I bought my Serta. You will too, and it will be worth your investment.
