Volunteering at the Fanciscan Outreach Association, located at 1645 West LeMoyne Street in Chicago' Bucktown neighborhood, is so much fun, because not only do I help set the table, greet guests and clean up after the dinner service, but the guests actually help as well. After each meal, the guests clean and scrape their trays, so we all work together. I feel that by helping us clean up, the guests are made to feel like they are doing their part to support the Association.

When I worked there as a volunteer, I would work with about 8 others, and while I always had to rush to get there, to be on time, I was so happy that I was doing my part to enhance the lives of people who were less fortunate than I was. Because everyone is so nice at the Franciscan Outreach, my daughter's school is even thinking of incorporating the Association into the school's "Service Hours" program.

Each year, the students at my daughter's high school need to perform a certain amount of service hours at nursing homes, soup kitchens or other service related environments. Although it's quite a distance from her school, the experience would be phenomenal for the students.

If you want to help with dinner service at the Franciscan Outreach, call them at 773-278-6724 or take a look at their website.
