Sessions: Pledge to America Returns Power to the People

Dallas Congressman Hopes GOP Agenda Will Sway Voters in November

On Friday (September 24), Dallas area Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX32) issued a statement on the Pledge to America, which details the GOP's new agenda for the House of Representatives. "The Pledge to America was created by listening to the American people and focusing on their top priorities - creating jobs, cutting spending, reducing government, and reforming Congress," Sessions said. "It recognizes that it is past time for the Majority in Congress to halt its reckless agenda and put the power back into the hands of the American people."

Although much of the Pledge to America details the GOP agenda should they retake the House in the fall elections, Sessions wants the Democratic majority in the House to begin acting on the recommendations now. "We are calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Majority to implement these common-sense solutions that struggling American families and small businesses need right now. We are committed to fulfilling our Pledge to America, working as long as it takes to return fiscal sanity and individual liberty to our nation."

The Pledge to America agenda promises action in five areas: to create jobs and stabilize the marketplace, cut government spending, repealing ObamaCare, restoring trust in Congress, and strengthening national defense.

Among the suggestions made by Republicans in the plan are extending tax relief for all Americans, providing deductions for small businesses, canceling unspent stimulus funds, abolish the TARP program, and ending the government control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Pledge to America also promises to balance the budget, repeal ObamaCare, and add more transparency to the legislative process.

"We are dedicated to implementing proven solutions for job creation, economic growth, and American prosperity under the principles of individual liberty and smaller government," Sessions said. "The Majority's job-killing tax, borrow and spend agenda deserves expulsion to the ash heaps of history. It's time for a new direction in Washington."
