A Story About Letting Go to Somebody You Love, in a Poetry Form

So he stands there in the doorway wasn't much after 6 a.m,
afraid to go any closer but yearning to take her hand,
a tear rolls from his cheek and quickly falls unto the floor,
he wondered what the days will be like since she wont be by his side anymore.

He takes a step back in hopes when he steps forward she will be awake,
her magical eyes and rosie cheeks wearing a smile that was never fake,
he ached to hear her voice once more telling him to hurry back to bed,
but in the still of this night she was not able to wake not a single word she said.

He tried to hold himself together he had to do what they agreed,
continue life and one day at heavens gate they would surely meet,
feelings of anger passed through his soul and he shook his fist up high,
"I made a promise to myself that it would be me that was first to die".

Lighting stretched upon the sky and rain drops fell to land,
the wind whistled loudly and at that moment he was no longer afraid to hold her hand,
he closed his eyes feeling every memory as if it had happened today,
every laugh contained her smile with her voice saying all she could say.

"Thank you my lady for all the wonderful years that you stood right to my side,
I meant every word to you my promises still strong even though you have died,
I love you with every ounce of my being and now must set you free,
I will look for you up in heaven someday please don't forget to look for me".
