Set a Wave in Motion

Quotes to Ponder

Alyce Rocco
Have not located the author of the words: It takes one person to set a wave in motion. Some feel Senator Barack Obama has set a wave of change in motion.

Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post headline declares: "Obama: The Movement Has Begun."

Bob Herbert of The New York Times wrote: "The historians can put aside their reference material. This is new. America has never seen anything like the Barack Obama phenomenon."

Deval Patrick at the Boston Globe said: "...we have a chance this time to choose a different kind of candidate, a different kind of president."

Walter Mosley wondered: "What kind of democracy gives you two candidates who represent less than 5 percent of the population? What kind of choice is that?"

Is Senator Obama's win in the Iowa Caucuses an example of one person setting a wave in motion? He does not credit himself with the victory. He says: "You did not do this for me, you did it for you." He did however set the wave in motion by suffering ridicule with his message and "Audacity of Hope". A character in the Shawshank Redemption said: "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies." Perhaps Obama's win shows that at least 37.58% of Iowans who participated believe in hope, change and dreams. I leave you with these quotes to ponder on setting your own waves in motion.

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Ralph Waldo Emerson

You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?" George Bernard Shaw

The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

In a gentle way, you can shake the world. Mohandas Gandhi

If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, then make the change. Michael Jackson

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Wayne Gretzkey

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word
. Martin Luther King Jr.

No laws can force brotherhood. Malcolm X

And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. John F. Kennedy

I'm asking you to believe, not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington...I'm asking you to believe in yours. Barack Obama

Gandhi said: "Whatever you do may seem insignificant to you, but it is most important that you do it." The insignificant thing you do could set a wave in motion. Choose wisely your actions.

...question my sanity in having the audacity to believe. National ID cards, turning unused military barracks into detention centers, (contracts awarded to Cheney/Bush involved companies), "mandatory health care with government penalty", "If you are not with us, you are against us", "It would be easier if this were a dictatorship and I were the dictator" GWG's "enemy combatant" USA, makes me fear not just the government but the people who are voting for the continued corruption in the White House.

Orchiolum: Ditto. I like 3 mainstream candidates and Jacques Boulerice. I have not checked out 3rd party candidates this year. I am rather tired of the rigid religious right Republicans that do not know the meaning of the words freedom of choice, democracy and liberty. I just read that Cynthia McKinney is running on the Green Party ticket. She best exemplifies the kind of government I want based on her voting records. Like Jacques I do not feel she has a chance in gathering enough votes. I would not have re-registered to vote except Senator Obama got me to believe again that we, the people, can take back our government. That might mean we could force legislation preventing Congress people from giving themselves their own raises, but rather letting we, the people decide with a vote. That so many people support Clinton who has said the government needs to lie to people (about reason to go to war) and her GWB endorsement, as well as her lies, I still fear for the future and question my sa

I've been keeping close tabs on the various presidential candidates, I can't say which I prefer at this moment, but I know I respect Obama, and that says a whole mouthful. Considering I really feel like most politicians are part of that infamous few who are able to set their own wages and make a fortune doing it. By the way, I enjoyed the quotes.

Thank you for your comments. Louie Jerome: I do not know much about England politics either, but do know about those who refusing to pay part of their taxes to protest the war in Iraq. And read about the grandmothers and grandpop arrested in separate incidents in England for the same protesting. If I recall the grannies were accused of being terrorists and the someone did not like gramps T-shirt. So Obama's advice is good advice to people worldwide.
