Setting Goals and Achieving Them

To actually set a goal and achieve it can be a difficult task. Things will come up or sometimes you just do not have the motivation to complete it. If you start small and strive for bigger goals, you will be successful. You just need to keep your mind to it and you will be successful.

The first step in setting goals and achieving them is to start with a list. It may be as small as finishing the dishes, or paying the bills today, but make sure you get it on paper. Getting it on paper and posting it where you will see it all the time, will make you stick to it. You will not want to see that the dishes need to be done 15 times a day; you will want to get them done so you can throw that piece of paper in the garbage. Make sure you include on your list the reward that you will give yourself if you accomplish it. You want to know what you will get if you actually get it done. Why do work when you get nothing in return?

Set a time that you will complete it. If it is today, maybe you can reward yourself by watching your favorite night time sitcom afterwards. You need to set a deadline or it will not get completed. Your show is on at 7:00p.m. so the dishes need to be done at 6:30 so you can make some popcorn and relax before the show starts. Knowing your timeframe is crucial so make sure it is on that piece of paper. It is ok to have several goals going at once. Just make sure you have plenty of time allotted to finish all of your goals. Don't try to do too much at once, it will hold you down and you will get nothing accomplished.

Once you are successful in completing some of the small goals, then you can increase. Setting bigger goals will create a challenge and will be more rewarding. Giving yourself better rewards will help too. Sometimes you will need the help of some supporters to complete your goal. Never be afraid to ask for help. It will make your goals a heck of a lot more attainable and you will feel better getting stuff accomplished. The main thing is to never give up. If you give up you will feel worse about not accomplishing anything. If you start small and strive big, you will succeed.
