Setting Up Your Neopets Shop

How to Earn the Most Neopoints for Your Goods

Kezzie Lee
Opening a Neopets shop is a great way to quickly earn Neopoints. But just like opening a real store, inventory, profit margins and supply and demand all come into play in a Neopets shop.

You will need to start your Neopets shop with some upfront Neopoints. 10,000 Neopoints will allow you to properly stock your Neopets shop right from the beginning. Click on the Shops button on the top of the screen. Click the "Your Shop" button then click "Create/Edit a Shop". Note that your account has to be more than 12 hours old to set up a shop. Add the required information. This process will cost you 150 Neopoints.

The best way to stock your Neopets store is to restock from the Neopets shops. You can find this by going to Neopia Central. These shops restock (gain new items for sale) automatically once every eight or so minutes. When it restocks, click on the item's picture (which will be over its name), and it will take you to the Haggle screen. Here, you can lower the price by typing in a suggested price for the item. For example, let's say you want to buy an item that costs 2,000 Neopoints. You can type in 1,000 in the Haggled Price textbox and the page will reload with a new price. Continue haggling until you have a desired price. By doing this, you could save a decent amount of Neopoints, which you can spend on other items. Keep in mind that haggling for an item will take time, and the item may be taken by another user. Also, every item has a secret "minimum price" which the item cannot be priced lower than. Once you have a few items, go back to your shop window.

Back in your shop window, you need to size your shop. Upgrading your Neopets shop size takes Neopoints. Upgrade until you have used almost all of your Neopoints. A Neopets shop size of 5 will suffice for now, as it can hold up to 25 items. Now place all of your items in your shop. Pricing your items is the next critical step in the process. Price too high and you won't sell anything. Price too low and you won't make any profit. You can once again use the Shop Wizard to come up with an appropriate price. Make sure that your price is reasonable compared to the lower prices on the Shop Wizard. Once all of your goods are priced, you just wait for them to sell.

Just like a real store, it's important to advertise your goods. You can post ads on Shop Ads board describing some of the items in your shop or to advertise a special sale. Once you have begun to sell your items, make sure that you keep your store stocked. No one likes to visit a store that only has a few items. Go through the same process at the Neopian shops as you did when you first started your shop.

Once you have restocked your shop a few times, you will get the hang of it and will become a shrewd Neopian merchant.
