Setton Farms Hickory Pistachios - a Product Review

MStephany
My family loves pistachios as a snack. We're veritable nut junkies. I think that, if nuts were not outlawed at our daughter's school, we would be sending her to school with nuts at least once a week. But I digress.

I went to a trade show last week and the nice folks from Setton Farms (okay, their representatives here in Canada) were nice enough to give me a sample of the hickory smoked pistachios to try.

Now, I'm going to be honest. As much as I love pistachios, I have a BIG beef with how most companies prepare them. By which I mean there is normally WAY too much salt for my taste. So imagine my surprise when I cracked the shell of these naturally opened pistachios. Instead of having my mouth dry out like the Gobi Desert, I could actually taste something. It was pistachio with a distinct but delicate hickory flavour. Wow. Talk about incredible.

I came home and, after dusting myself off and unloading all my packages, introduced them to my husband, who immediately insisted that I send him to work with some in his lunch. My son tackled the package and went for a run to the couch and shared his booty with his younger sister. Unheard of behavior on his part (sharing) but I put it down to his feeling generous to have something so tasty.

Our family really enjoyed this product. We liked that these pistachios were not as salty as many pistachios can be. We loved the hickory flavour, which was not overpowering. Our one complaint was that the package did not offer the opportunity to re-seal it, to maintain product freshness. Not that that was really an issue for us (we finished the bag in less than three days). But it would have been nice to be able to seal it and hide it away for another day. Now I can say "Please sir, may I have another?"
