Seven Brides for Seven Brothers movie in 1954 marked the centennial of the songwriter Johnny Mercer. With seven songs in the movie, Mercer wrote over 1,500 songs during his career. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was directed by Stanley Donen with music by Gene de Paul and Saul Chaplin and the lyrics written by Johnny Mercer.
The script of the musical film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was written by Albert Hackett, Dorothy Kingsley and Frances Goodrich, based on the short story by Steven Vincent Benet entitled, The Sobbin' Women. According to Wikipedia, his story was based on the ancient Roman legend, The Rape of the Sabine Women.
Michael Kidd did the unusual choreography that made Seven Brides for Seven Brothers famous. Kidd created dances from frontier activities such as raising a barn and chopping wood.
