1. Pride is an excessive belief in one's own abilities. Pride is also known as Vanity.
2. Envy is wanting what others have, be it status, abilities, or possessions.
3.Gluttony is the desire to eat or consume more than you require.
4. Lust is a powerful craving for such as sex, power and money.
5. Anger is the loss of rational self-control and the desire to harm others.
6. Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain.
7. Sloth is laziness and the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
Greed is sin, one of the seven deadly sins. It is a state of mind which constantly wants more. Money is a symbol for things that we can acquire. The more money we have, the more things we can acquire. Because there are few limits on the power of money to satisfy us, there is enormous potential for money to have power over us. This power it holds is greed. People who are caught up in greed share certain characteristics. They may not be overt or even apparent to outsiders, but if we look into our own souls and uncover greed we will also find selfishness, covetousness and divided loyalty. Each of these things on their own can hinder our spiritual maturity and relationship with God, but taken together they can completely corrupt us. Greed is a root problem. Greed serves as a foundation for many problems, like selfishness, abuse of power and people, infidelity, and a myriad of other problems. Regarding those who are greedy the Bible says, "He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house..." (Prov. 15: 27). There are people whom the Bible describes as greedy in the commission of sin (Eph. 4: 19). Jesus addressed some greedy people when he said, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth" (Lk. 12: 15). Jesus then described a greedy farmer and the waste that characterized him (vs. 16-21). Greed precludes contentment (Heb. 13: 5). Moreover, greed is the prolific cause of all evil. "The love of money is the root of all evil," penned Paul (I Tim. 6: 10). The apostle Paul also condemned greed in Mathew 6:24, Jesus said "You cannot serve both God and money.
Being greedy also comes with some negative consequences. Proverbs 15:26 states, "A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live." Greed will also inevitably lead to poverty. Proverbs 28:22 states, "A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him. We are even told to avoid greedy people. Proverbs 23:6 says, "Do not eat the food of a stingy man, do not crave his delicacies."

Post a CommentGreed is indeed a deadly sin. It takes hold of one's soul and keeps its deadly grip. Pride is the worst, for out of this sin, all others lead. Great work Shaila.
Excellent work, Shaila, expressly the points concerning the troubles and woes that arise as a result of a greedy heart. But most of all, as you said, it breed a lack of contentment. This is often expressed through a rejection of all that God says, resulting in even more anger and frustration. Great article. Thanks
