Seven Falls, Colorado: 181 Feet of Crystal Clear Waterfalls

Seven Falls
Neighborhood: Cheyenne Canon
Colorado Springs, CO 80906
United States of America
Seven Falls cascades 181 feet in seven distinct steps down a solid cliff. Crystal clear water from the southern most edges of the Pikes Peak watershed have, over the ages, carved this unique scenic masterpiece in an easily accessed location.

Next to the Falls, a 224-step stairway leads to a system of trails that will take you to "Midnight Falls" and then onto Inspiration Point with a breath-taking view of Colorado Springs and the great plains beyond.

The newest trail at Seven Falls leads to the small, sparkling Midnight Falls. Midnight Falls is near the headwaters of South Cheyenne Creek that is formed by springs and from snowmelt on Pikes Peak.

The original trail at Seven Falls opened in 1883. This one-mile trail is Seven Falls' longest and has been the most popular for well over a century. The winding trail leads to Inspiration Point where guests enjoy a spectacular view of the Great Plains and the city of Colorado Springs. Inspiration Point is also the location of the original gravesite of Helen Hunt Jackson, a very important writer of the late 1800s. It was her last request that she be buried here at the spot that inspired so many of her famous poems. Her original grave site is now marked by a historic plaque, although her remains now rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.

From mid-May to Labor Day the summer nights come alive with a fascinating glow. The entire canon is illuminated in a veil of light, culminating with the Seven Falls in a brilliant display of color. It is an incredible view and something you won't want to miss.

There is a variety of things for the entire family to enjoy. You can feed the rainbow trout, view wildlife, enjoy numerous educational exhibits, walk the trails, or watch the Native Americans present interpretations of Indian dances hourly during the summer.

The falls are best viewed from the Eagle's Nest Observation platform, accessed by the mountain elevator located inside the mountain, or by taking the 224-step stairway. Seven Falls is the only waterfall in Colorado listed in the National Geographic list of International waterfalls.
