Seven Great Tips to Keep in Touch Free While Traveling

Mona Loeser
I'm a frugal traveler. Keeping in touch with friends and family can get expensive as you explore the outer regions of the globe. Here is how I keep in touch without spending a cent.

Tip # 1 -Smoke Signals

The Indians really had this one down. I'm traveling with a blanket anyway since I'm too cheap to pay for a hotel room. Nights under the stars inspire me. So before I put out the camp fire I say hi to friends and relations with a few waves of the blanket over the coals. I may not be able to create prose but those little puffs of smoke let my friends know I'm alive.

Tips # 2 -Carrier pigeon

I really hate to travel alone and so I take my bird. He's also kind of attached to me so I'm pretty sure when I set him free that he'll come back. He can also bring stuff to me so if I'm need a few bucks my family can put it in a container and attach it to his leg. He doesn't mind at all.

Tip # 3 -Blimp

I can't afford to advertise in the blimp but if I sneak under just as they are lifting I can attack a banner and they will never even know. I do that during Fall sports seasons. During the summer I do the same thing with small planes that fly over the beach.

Tip # 4 -I call myself

Everyone has done this sometime. You call yourself collect and they know you're ok. Since no one ever takes my calls anyway I can do this without prior arrangement and they will refuse the call. But they know I'm thinking of them.

Tip # 5 -Get arrested

If my picture is on the 11 o'clock news they will know where I am and what I'm doing. You reach your biggest audience with this one.

Tip # 6 - Wanted Posters

That goes with getting arrested. You can stretch it out for a while if you don't let them get you and they put your face on a poster. And this is one that could bring you a movie contract if you're really nice looking.

Tip # 7 - Get sick

The hospital will call home for you.

Well, I hope you have found these tips helpful. You may want to print out this page and carry it with you in case you forget. I look forward to hearing from you.
