Twitter apps can help promote your business or brand, stay on top of trending topics, track power users, or even personalize your Twitter personality. These seven applications make Twitter a more fun and powerful networking partner.

TweetBeep: Do you want to know what people are talking about on Twitter? Do you need to follow trending topics? Do you need to follow your brand? Do you write or publish and need to know what is current? TweetBeep may become your best friend! TweetBeep is a free app like Google alerts that searches for your key words on Twitter. Or, you can sign up for the premium subscription and receive 200 alerts and no ads for $20/month. Email alerts let you know who is tweeting your website link or topic. TweetBeep even works with URL shorteners. It's a great way to keep up with your business, topic, hobby, or your competition.

TwitterCounter: TwitterCounter provides a widget that you can place on your blog or website to invite people to follow your Twitter updates. When you access the sight the first time, you can add your Twitter account and see the number of followers and an historical chart showing how your follower count has changed over time. Or, check out a popular figure on Twitter and monitor their usage. If you are one of those Twitter fans that work to build a follower base, then TwitterCounter is definitely a great tool for you.

Twitter Toolbar: Download the free Twitter Toolbar and you can visit Twitter, update your status, search Google, Twitter, or several other search engines, and do research on a topic to see how it is trending with one simple click. Twitter Toolbar works in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. You can set up to receive email notifications or play music or podcasts through the Radio Player, and even check the weather!

Twitpic: Share your photos on Twitter by posting them to Twitpic. If you have a Twitter account, then you already have a Twitpic account. It's easy to post and send a tweet to your account. You can also tag or add a comment to your photos. For all the star watchers out there: lots of celebrities use Twitpic!

TweetDeck: TweetDeck is a browser that allows you to see what is happening on several social networking sites at once. Stay up to date with what your Twitter and Facebook friends are doing or saying is easy with TweetDeck. Download the software and set up what you want to see by customizing groups, columns, and searches. There is even an iPhone TweetDeck application. Ashton Kutcher uses TweetDeck!

I have used Tweetdeck but it bugs me sometimes, wanting to pop up all the time. I have used HootSuite and liked it.

I use TweetDeck on my laptop and iPod for general stuff and I do "professional" stuff through HootSuite, like scheduling tweets and tracking clicks. And I'm checking out TweetBeep right now! Thank you for sharing!
