Seven Most Hilarious Comedians

Garrett H.
We all love to laugh - why not laugh at the best? Forget comedians who stake their entire careers on one line or joke; these seven comedians constantly have new and hilarious material. Some are controversial but all deserve to be heard.

1. Patton Oswalt
He is the voice of Remy in Ratatouille and played Spence on The King of Queens, but is also a monster presence on stage. He is a comic book and video game freak, but his jokes stay grounded in hilarious skits. From quoting and chastising songs and commercials to esoteric but hilarious references, Patton Oswalt is among the funniest comedians today.

2. Demitri Martin
This man's joke style is an acquired taste, but should not be ignored. He plays songs riddled with jokes and humor, and has a very old-fashioned quality to his jokes, without real stories but with only simple one-two punches. Demitri doesn't really stay in any one area; his performances jump around to make the mundane and common place funny. Plus, he plays his songs well. Give him a shot.

3. Brian Regan
This man has been going strong for years and is finally getting more mainstream. He tells his jokes with gratuitous amounts of energy and enthusiasm, making his punch lines and stories more over the top. Don't worry, his acts are very clean with no racial or religious pokes. He is simply a funny man (he actually won Best Comedian of the Year a few years ago) and deserves a bigger following. Find his original CD and his newer performances. You will not regret it.

4. Sarah Silverman
She may have hosted the MTV Movie Awards this year and have her own show on Comedy Central, but this firecracker is a stage comedian forever. Sarah does incorporate a lot of racial slurs and jabs into her acts, as well as other taboo subject matter...very mature taboo subject matter. Nonetheless, if you can take what she dishes out, she will have you rolling. Not for the easily offended, but Silverman's work is unmistakably gold.

5. Lewis Black
Another star performer who was graced with a Carnegie Hall show, Lewis continues to turn heads and make solid points. His humor is more political than other on this list, but it is his intelligence percolated with wanton obscenities that make you both laugh out loud and think. You may not agree with his humor on politics, but his rants on his own faith, world affairs, and childhood memories will make you beg for more. Find any of his CDs and enjoy.

6. Nick Swardson
He is always on Reno 911! but his acts extends to the stage. Nick's style is very mainstream and anyone can love his material. His does have a lot of pep during his acts, and his jokes range from friends and alcohol to pet cheetahs. While he can seem everywhere at once you will find something to enjoy from his jokes and asides.

7. Jim Gaffigan
This man loves food. You might know him from the series My Boys and many commercials. Regardless his act is very clean, sane, and always grounded in true-to-life accounts. He'll make you think about food in manic ways with his robust performances. He has a unique way of imitating his audience, and when his jokes run and run those remarks hit home even harder. The man is brilliant and you deserve to hear his acts.

There you are. Seven comedians, some more mainstream than others, who you deserve to hear and enjoy. Take some time to hear their material, No matter what your favorite comedy flavor is, these seven will leave you wanting more.

While these are all funny people, how can you make a list of great comedians that does not include the established kings..Lenny Bruce, George Carlin or Richard Pryor?
