Seven Popular Wedding Pattern Themes

Michele Arrowsmith- Rowe
This season is all about simplicity! So why not create a theme around a simple pattern? From stripes, flowers, polka dots, letters, fleur-de-lis, damasks, and paisley - - here are seven simple pattern ideas to help you get started!

Are you having a contemporary themed wedding? Well, stripes might be a great pattern choice for you! Pinstripes, or thin, horizontal, and monochromatic lines, are very popular this season. You can use this pattern, using all three of your wedding colors, on your wedding cake, stationary, centerpieces, and table linen. Afraid it might get too busy? Just add the pattern to a few elements and not everything in the room!

Having a garden, tea, or spring wedding? How about a flower motif? Everyone loves flowers! This theme is feminine, romantic, and traditional. When you pick your design, you can choose a floral design with many types of flowers, in your color scheme. Or, design your wedding around one particular flower. For example, a hydrangea theme, in a variety of light and dark purple hues, is very popular this season. Remember - - you don't have to rely on just your centerpieces to express your floral theme! Add the pattern to your wedding china, chargers, cake, wedding stationary, or linen!

Do you want a whimsical setting? Polka dots might be an excellent choice for you! Either a colored background with white dots or a white background with multicolored dots - - both could be fun and playful. Where to use this pattern? Use your pattern on the centerpiece containers, cake, wedding stationary, favors, or table linen.

Want to add a simple sophistication to your wedding? Add your monogram to your wedding elements! This trend continues to be popular, with brides and grooms, because the monogram is one way to personalize one's wedding. How to create your monogram? It's the bride's first initial, the first letter of the couple's last name, and then the initial of the groom's first name. Where to add this monogram? Add it to the cake, wedding stationary, ribbon on the centerpieces or bridal bouquet, wedding favors, or gobo projection on the dance floor.

Are you having an elegant or regal affair? Have a Fleur-de-lis theme! Want the design to stand out? Pick gold for the fleur-de-lis and pair it with dark purple, yellow, brown, or dark green! Add this design to your wedding cake, stationary, favors, and centerpieces.

Having a black, white, and red color scheme? How about adding a damask pattern? Damask continues to be a very trendy pattern this season. Where to add this design? Add the pattern to the wedding stationary, cake, favors, or linen. Be careful, however, this could be a very busy design! Pick key elements in the room, when adding this element.

Another fashionable pattern this season is paisley. This pattern is a very classic and trendy. Where to add this design? Add this design to your wedding cake, stationary, and linen. Again, this is a very busy design. Add it to a few elements in the room!

Can't make your mind up on a design? How about pairing up two or three patterns? How to do this? Pick polka dots, stripes, and paisley and tie the designs together, using the same exact three colors in all the designs. For example, mix-and-match the different elements of your wedding stationary, using polka dots, stripes, and paisley, in your color scheme. Remember - - this sets the mood for a very casual wedding!

This season's trend is simplicity! So, why not pick a simple pattern for your theme? These patterns will sure set the tone of your unique wedding. If you can't choose, you can always pair them up! Remember - - just have fun creating your simple wedding theme around a simple pattern!
