Seven Reasons Flashforward Should Be Revived

Kyra Lennon
Just over a year ago, ABC aired a brand new show with a fantastic concept. That show was Flashforward. With a cast of famous faces, Flashforward reached fans all over the world but due to a large decline in ratings, ABC chose not to renew it for a second season. Flashforward has now been released on DVD which is giving fans renewed love for the show. While the chance of a second season of Flashforward seems to be disappearing, the hope is still strong. Here are seven reasons Flashforward should be revived.

Seven Reasons Flashforward Should Be Revived

1. Fans still want Flashforward back

When Flashforward was first scrapped by ABC, dedicated Flashforward fans stepped up and made a lot of noise to get the show brought back for a second season. With encouragement from a Facebook fan page, global blackouts were staged - replicating the event in the pilot episode. They also wrote numerous emails and letters to ABC and sent all kinds of Flashforward related items to the network bosses. Although the voices were heard, Flashforward was not given a second chance. This has not dampened the support though. The fight continues - and such dedication should really be rewarded!

2. What happened to Janis Hawk?

The final episode of Flashforward season one ended with a second global blackout. Janis Hawk - FBI Agent/double agent mole and one of the most interesting characters in the show - was at the hospital after having the ultrasound she saw in her flashforward. While she was blacked out, the mysterious Lita was awake and wheeled her away. Where was she taking her? What was she going to do to her? This question needs an answer, and is one of the biggest reasons Flashforward should be revived!

3. Other unanswered questions

The cliffhanger ending fans were left with showed a lot of flashforwards, and viewers were later told by executive producer Jessika Borsiczky that they belonged to characters we hadn't met yet - a lead in to the second season. Who these characters were going to be and what the visions meant have tormented hardcore Flashforward fans! There were many other questions left hanging too, like what would happen to Demetri and Zoey? Would Bryce and Keiko live happily ever after? Would Olivia pick Lloyd or Mark? There is so much that needs to be cleared up.

4. Re-uniting the best cast a television show has ever seen

There are plenty of television shows with amazing casts, but generally speaking, they are made up of one or two big names and a cast whose names become known through that show. Flashforward boasted enormous names right from the start. Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Sonya Walger and Dominic Monaghan were already well known from both television and movies and each of them had leading roles in Flashforward. Bringing them back together is a great reason for Flashforward to be revived.

5. Unfair comparisons ruined Flashforward before it began

With Lost ending just as Flashforward began, it was actually billed as being "the next Lost", which set it up to fail before it had even hit our screens. Lost was a unique show with an incredible following and deeply intricate plot. Nothing will ever be like Lost again. While Flashforward also had an intricate plot, that is where the similarities end. Flashforward was advertised very heavily, but it wasn't being advertised for what it was - a fantastic show that was brilliant in its own right. One of the best reasons Flashforward should be revived is to give it a chance to shine without being in the shadow of Lost.

6. To silence the critics

For unknown reasons, many television critics gave Flashforward a hard time. It got to the point where they almost seemed delighted that it might go down in flames. It would be an enormous slap in the face for those who doubted the show to see it return and be even better than it was before!

7. Return of the podcasts

One of the best things about loving a television show is the enthusiasm of some fans. Thousands all over the world tuned in to listen to Flashforcast and Squirrelio Fans podcasts to hear theories, predictions and general chatter about Flashforward. Both were a joy to listen to and many friends were made through both of these two shows. Without them, the word on saving Flashforward may have taken a lot longer to spread!

Flashforward should be revived simply because it was a great show with a great cast, great storylines and the potential to get people talking. A second chance for Flashforward would give the fans the answers they so desperately crave, and could easily pull in the ratings that were lacking the first time around. Some of the biggest shows on television had a shaky first season, then went on to become legendary - Flashforward would definitely be one of those shows!

What a shame. ABC, why not bring the show on a parent network, or better, as part of the new summer line up. I work with 15 other people in my lab.,and this show was the most watched among us!!!

I agree. The show needs to come back. I want to know what Demetri and Simon saw this time around since they didn't have flashforwards the first time. Is Mark dead? Where did Gabriel end up on flashforward day? Zoey? What exactly does Hellinger do?

YES! Bring this fantastic show back! FlashForward was the only show that my entire family would sit down and watch, and when we found out it was cancelled... well, do I need to say it? BRING IT BACK!!

let me describe my Thursday nite when Flashfoward was on. I would call my sis, where ever she was, to get home so we could spend quality time watching this show. we would only get off the couch during a commercial and our cell phones would be off for the whole hour.. well, two, since Grey's Anatomy came on next. The show was so addictive that we wouldn't schedule anything around that time. Hell, when the second part of the first season came on, we had a party. Canceling this show left so many unanswered questions we are still DYING to know. Look, ABC, you are showing last week's episode of GA before the new. That's great and all for those who missed it but most of us who have seen it (pointing at me) would rather watch something more thrilling. save your ratings and bring it back. You have faithful fans and viewers who want to see this to the end.

That show has opened my mind like never a show before. The Story cast and characters are simply awesome.
Please give it a second chance.

awesome show! keeps you interested, makes you think! not too many shows like that on the air now. The show needs a chance to gain a following. It can be complicated to follow at first but once you do, you're hooked. Bring it back please!

Nice article and awesome reasons. FlashForward should come back, and I believe it will come back at some point.

Very few TV shows catch my attention, I wasn't even a big Lost fan, but I watched every episode of FlashForward without fail and looked forward to the following Thursday when I could see what would happen.

    Bring FlashForward back!

Good reasons. FlashForward has an eighth reason though: While FlashForward was playing, it was around the time that LOST was coming to an end. People waited 6 years to see that ending, so FlashForward got in the spotlight in the wrong time. I'm pretty sure that if FlashForward was broadcasting after LOST ended, it would be one of the top TV series of all time.
ABC must reconsider the possibility of bringing it back!
