With the warm weather approaching it is time once again to break out those flip flops. Add spice to last years designs or purchase a new pair and individualize them to your own liking. Flip flops can be purchased inexpensively at many locations; Old Navy, Wal-Mart, and Target are some that offer a wide selection. You can also purchase inexpensive flip flops at the end of the summer.

Deciding how to decorate your flip flops actually takes longer than the act of doing so. Most of these tips can be done in minutes. This is a great craft for anyone to do; from children to that mom looking to save money. Decorating flip flops would be a great craft to do at a little girl's birthday party; at a great price they make excellent party favors.

Paint -For a fresh new look add paint to last years flip flops. Fabric paints work best. They can be applied easily and they last a long time. You can paint the top of the flip flops for a fresh new color. If you want to spend more time you can add little designs; stars or hearts for example. If you are not good with free handing the little designs then you can use a stencil. Another option is to monogram your flip flops for that individual look. If you are decorating your wedge flip flops you can paint different color stripes on the sides. Mix a little glitter in your paint for an added element.

Beads and Rhinestones-Using a hot glue gun you can add either beads or rhinestones to the straps of your flip flops. It is a quick and easy way to dress up a pair of boring old flip flops. By adding rhinestones you are giving your flip flops that instant "bling look." Rhinestones instantly add value and give you that expensive flip flop look for less.

Studded Earrings-Cruise over to the dollar store and pick up some studded earrings. You can make trim around your flip flops with them. Poke a small hole with the earring into the width of the flip flop, remove and add superglue, then replace the earring in the hole. This is such an easy way to get one of a kind flip flops. For instance if for Easter you wanted to make your daughter bunny flips flops all your would need to do is locate bunny earrings and you are all set.

Fabric stickers-Fabric stickers are great to use for a special event. However, fabric stickers are a short lived option. Due to the heat from your feet while walking the stickers will tend to peel after just a few wears. Also, be careful not to get them wet as they may start to peel instantly. Using the fabric stickers you can make designs on the inside of the flip flop, right where the heal is. Silver stars, ocean life, and flowers are extremely popular. Another cute option; using alphabet fabric stickers you could write out the word "bride" or "Mrs.____." All that is required is you peel the stickers off the sheet that they come on and press firmly onto the heal of the flip flop.

Silk Flowers-If you want a more tropical feel then add a few flowers to your flip flops. At your local craft store you can pick up a small bag of silk flowers for less than $2.00. With a hot glue gun your simply glue the flowers to the top of the flip flops.

Ribbons-Dress up any flip flops with a few silk ribbons. The silk ribbons can be purchased individually or in small packs containing different colors. Decide where you want to place the ribbons (directly on top or to one side) and with the help of a hot glue gun apply. Now you have a cute feminine flip flop that can be paired with any sundress.

Thread-Sometimes all your flip flops need is a little color. By using thread, the thread that children often use to make friendship bracelets, you can wrap it around the thongs of the flip flops. This thread comes in many vibrant colors. It is so practical to use because it is meant to withstand water and everyday wear. You can wrap the thread around the flip flops or you can actually make two friendship bracelets and then wrap them around the flip flop. The friendship bracelets will add some texture. Tie a small knot underneath the thong of the flip flop to secure in place. Add a dab of superglue for extra confidence that the thread will not unwind.
