Seven Ways to Decorate Your Home with Handmade Halloween Crafts

Lila Rose
As Halloween approaches, everyone tries to come up with great ways to decorate their home without breaking their budget. Now, you can learn seven ways to use handmade crafts that are easy, fun, and usually inexpensive.

Table Decorations

Table decorations are a wonderful way to decorate your home with handmade Halloween crafts. You can make everything from napkin rings to place mats to table clothes. Napkin rings can be constructed out of toilet paper rolls and Halloween trinkets. Place mats can be crafted from construction paper, clip art, stamps, or stickers, and clear contact paper. For your table cloth, let your kids decorate a plain, white cloth with stamps or paint for a homemade table top creation.

Halloween Garland

Halloween garland, much like Christmas garland, can brighten up any room. Although it can be made a number of ways, one of the most common is with construction cut-outs and some appropriately colored yarn. Glue two of the same cut-outs together over the yarn, and continue to interchange different pictures and symbols until your garland is as long as you need. In this case, Halloween cookie cutters are a great help when making your cut-outs and for many other handmade crafts.

Spiders

What Halloween craft project is complete without a few spiders to decorate the home? Handmade spiders can be made a couple of different ways, although the most common are made from pipe cleaners and egg carton shells. Other common ways include a balloon, newspaper, flour glue, and aluminum foil (which are also known as paper-mache spiders).

Bats

Handmade bats are the perfect addition to Halloween crafts that decorate your home. Halloween bats can also be made from egg cartons. Or, they can be crafted from paper or craft foam. Whether they stay stationary or are able to go mobile (or at least flap their wings), your handmade bats are sure to be the hit of your Halloween crafts.

Ghosts

Spiders and bats are fun handmade Halloween crafts for your home, but ghosts are a requirement for anyone who decorates for this holiday. The best way to add the most ghosts to your home is by spreading them out in different rooms. For example, you may have hanging ghosts in your living room, ghost magnets (made from white glue) in your kitchen, and ghost prints on your place mats. No matter what you decide, you can never have too many ghosts during Halloween.

Pumpkins

Halloween pumpkin crafts can include anything from handmade crafts to hand-carved jack-o-lanterns. If the children in your family are too young, or you do not want to deal with the mess, consider painting your pumpkins instead of carving them. Other handmade crafts for your home include everything from pumpkin window hangings to treat bags.

Candle Accessories

The perfect setting for Halloween is candlelight, which comes from handmade crafts that decorate your home, inside and out. Candle accessories include luminaries, candle holders, and of course, candles. They can be made from paint, paper bags, tea lights, and usually, glass jars (to contain the fire).

While you do not have to do all of these ideas, it is hard to stop once you get started. Halloween is the best time to let your creativity flow and come up with crafts for your home that are silly, creepy, or even a little scary. When you decorate your home with handmade crafts, it not only puts you in the spirit of the holiday, but lets you show off all of your hard work.
