When it comes to a monthly cycle I want to be sure I can go about my day and feel confident that no one else knows what's going on. Over the many years I have been through a few embarrassing accidents that were saved by wrapping a sweater around my waist. As I am sure many women can relate you can see why going green in that area could cause me a bit of trepidation.
I will point out that Seventh Generation pads are not completely "green." They do contain a form of plastic (Polyolefin) making them not so biodegradable. They are chlorine-free and more "green" than the average pad.
For a more natural pad I was very surprised at how thin the Seventh Generation pads are. They are equivalent to the more mainstream brands. They are a bit stiffer though, but not bothersome in that way. They are comfortable and I can barely feel them when I wear them.
My first time trying them was on a day I was staying home and not on a day with my heaviest flow. I wasn't that confident yet. I was very impressed with their absorbency and the amount they held. I was a bit disappointed that they did bunch up when I spent the day lounging. I ended up with a leak. I don't think it would have happened if I wasn't lounging around and I was sitting up straight at work or something. But still I want to be able to go about my day sitting, lying, or lounging as I please and not worry about whether my pad will bunch and leak or not.
Packaging wise I think has a lot to work on to get back to their environmentally-friendly status. I am okay with them using some plastics but their packaging which holds the pads it a thin film plastic. They could have easily put it in a recycled paper box. Each pad it also packaged in plastic, similar to what you would find the average pad wrapped in. I think Seventh Generation could possibly wrap theirs in a coated paper material.
I am very impressed with Seventh Generation Ultra-Thin pads and I plan to continue to use them but I plan to stick with the not so environmentally friendly brands for my most heaviest days and I will be using Seventh Generation brand for all the days after.
