SevenTips for Keeping Your RuneScape Account Secure

Rain Patchett
Safeguarding your personal data and assets is crucial in today's digital world. This is true even when said belongings are part of a virtual world such as that which encompasses the online role playing game known as RuneScape. You are not only at risk of losing your precious in-game inventory, but without taking some important security measures, your entire account could be compromised. You could lose important real-world personal information. Don't let identity theft happen to you in-game or in the real world! To help make sure this doesn't happen to you, here are some important tips for keeping your RuneScape account secure.

1. Create a secure account password.

When you create your RuneScape account, you will be asked to create an account password. Be sure to create a unique password that you will only use to access your RuneScape account. Make your password more secure by using a combination of letters and numbers. Also, be sure that your password doesn't spell out any word that can be found in the dictionary. Combining family members' names and birthdays in random combinations is a good way to create more secure passwords that are easier to remember.

2. Create a secure recovery question.

You will also be asked to create a recovery question and answer to help resolve a case of account theft or password loss. Be sure to create a question to which no one else will know the answer. Also, don't use a question for which it would be easy for someone to guess the answer. For example, you may think, "What year was I born?" would be a difficult question for someone guess the answer to. However, if the culprit had gotten to know you in-game and had a pretty good idea how old you are, it wouldn't be difficult for he or she to guess the answer to that question.

3. Create a secure bank pin.

You will be required to create a bank pin to access your character's inventory. Your bank pin will be a series of four numbers just like most real bank pins. Be careful not to use your real bank pin. You wouldn't want anyone to get their hands on that! Use a set of numbers that is easy to remember but not too terribly easy to guess. For example, try to avoid using 0000 or 1234. Anyone could guess that.

4. Mum's the word.

Now that you've taken the time to create a secure account password, a secure recovery question and a secure bank pin, make sure you don't tell anyone! Of course you wouldn't do this on purpose, right? But you would be surprised how easy this might be to do by accident. Just remember that no one from RuneScape will ever ask you for your password and any official correspondence from RuneScape will only come to you via the RuneScape Message Centre. So, remember, mum's the word. And that goes for personal information, too, such as your real name, your credit card number, etc. There's no reason you need to reveal this to anyone in-game. So, be safe, and just don't.

5. Avoid unofficial trading.

RuneScape provides a secure trading system for players to trade their inventory. Therefore, there is no real need for players to circumvent this system in order to complete a trade. If a player insists on using unorthodox means for trading with you, watch out! This is potentially a scam, and you'd be better off trading with another player.

6. Avoid unofficial RuneScape websites and add-ons.

There are fake add-ons and websites out there that claim to be enhancements to the game, but they really aren't. You might think you're getting a cheat code or participating in a cool chat room, but what's really happening is that someone is stealing your password! Be sure to stick with the official RuneScape websites only.

7. Keep your personal computer security up-to-date.

Be sure your own personal computer is up-to-date with the latest Windows and Internet Explorer updates and patches. Also, be sure your firewall and virus security are up-to-date and turned on at all times. These will help to protect you in case some compromising content does attempt to cross the wires and infect your PC with malicious content that could compromise your in-game or real-world assets.

So you see, with some creative password creation, which you now know to keep quiet about, by avoiding scam artists, who may use unofficial measures to trick you into giving out personal information, and by keeping your computer security up-to-date, you have many ways to keep your RuneScape account secure. Follow these 7 tips to keep your in-game and real word data and assets safe! For more information, be sure to consult the RuneScape help files which provide even more excellent tips at avoiding scams and scam artists who prey on the virtual role playing world of RuneScape.

Runescape Coins (also known as Runescape Gold, gold pieces, or gp) are the most common form of currency in RuneScape. They can be used to represent the value of virtually every single item in the game, as well as various services offered throughout.
In RuneScape, coins appear as small gold coins, also noted by some people that they look like nuggets, roughly cylindrical, and are stackable. Buy Runescape GoldFor more information on the mechanics of stackable items in RuneScape, see stackable items. In Grim Tales, it was revealed that coins have more intricate designs imprinted on their faces, although they usually appear small, making it difficult for players to notice it.
According to Saradomin, runescape gold are minted by the Fief. He doesn't give more detail as to who or what the Fief is, but judging from the meaning of "fief" it is likely to be one of the human kingdoms (i.e. Misthalin).
Not surprisingly, alchemy spells cannot be cast on coins. If a player attempts it, a mess
