Obesity is a major problem in the United States and now obesity is affecting children at an early age. Many families are making changes to their diets and incorporating healthier foods. Also, families are making efforts to plan physical activities and exercise. Childhood obesity is a major concern and shouldn't be ignored by parents or society. Moreover, obesity will lead to long term medical problems. In addition, many parents need to be aware of the long term effects of childhood obesity.

There is a possibility that an obese child can have problems with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes. Many obese adults have developed heart disease because of being obese. Most children that are a healthy weight rarely deal with these types of disease.

Type 2 Diabetes was a disease that mainly affected adults but there has been an increase in children developing Type 2 diabetes. Overall, there has been an increase in cases of adult and children developing Type 2 Diabetes. The rise of obesity in children and adults is increasing every year. As a result, obese children are growing into obese adults. This is a very alarming fact.

Asthma is another health problem that an obese child can develop over time. Obese boys are more likely to develop asthma then obese girls. In addition, asthma tends to affect obese children a lot worse than kids with asthma that's not obese. Also, obese children will require more medical attention, medicine and wheeze more than the average weight child.

Many obese children have low self esteem or deal with psychological problems. The weight issue can have long term effects on children and self esteem issues can linger after losing the weight. Also, being overweight can affect a child socially and make it hard for the child to develop friendships. It can be hard for obese children to participate in the same activities of their peers like running, walking and playing sports. Many children tend to bully or say mean things about obese children. This can cause the child to perform poorly in school and develop low self esteem.

These are some of the medical problems that have developed in children as a direct or indirect cause of obesity. Image is really important in society because of the media and celebrities. This will affect obese children in many ways and can develop eating disorders, become suicide, or act out sexually. Most parents can help their child fight obesity after being made aware of the risks of obesity.
