Severe British Backlash on Republicans Spreading Blatant Lies on Their NHS
Republicans Forgot They Are Living in the Era of the Internet
Republicans think scaring Americans through lies and crying Russia, Communism, Socialism, Big Government are the in thing. I don't blame them. Painful as it is that is all what they know.
The party leaders were and are only thinking about securing their lives, forgetting the party too has a life of its own.
They are worried about their healthcare donors disappearing from the scene. So they had to stop that source of money of money from drying up. Even I may do that pushed to the level of extinction.
But using scare tactics and intimidation are not the civilized way to do that.
Nor telling lies about what is happening in other countries.
No healthcare system can be 100% perfect. But we should have been careful in painting systems beyond our shores with the darkest tar. Especially in this era of the internet. They will soon hear about.
That the traditionally reserved British felt forced to respond means we have crossed the lines with our lies.
After impoverishing Americans for almost half a century by showing foreign scarecrows like Arabs and Russians, the favorite subjects of my generation, now Republicans find they have forgotten to learn new tricks to fool the post-babyboomer generation.
To tell the truth, it was a Democrat President who started this phobia circus. And there was the dumb head in Russia called Krushchev who thought he can surreptitiously move missiles to Cuba.
But that was a bad beginning. It became fashionable to scare and intimidate Americans by showing foreign scarecrows so that their attention can be diverted from real problem at home. And the tactics became the hallmark of Republican administrations who made it their own.
That was a successful example of brainwashing a community already weakened by babyboomer excesses.
Yes, we had enemies. But crying wolf, wolf meant insulting our own Pentagon and armed forces as if they were not up to the mark for the job.
At no time was Pentagon or the armed forces found wanting except when politicians tied their arms and legs.
Ours is a democracy. Don't expect army chiefs to disobey civilian leaders. The only thing they can do is to resign if they feel strongly about anything.
I could only laugh when a woman in a Town Hall meeting shouted the typical babyboomer war cry,"I don't want my country to be reduced to a socialist country like Russia."
Lady, this about the healthcare bill in USA, it has nothing to do with socialism or Russia. She was not interested in telling which part of the bill affects her adversely.
So also issuing death threats against the First Family meant that particular meeting was more interested in racism than about the bill.
When John McCain said he is not computer savvy I could understand that. Like he, I was born before IBM made the PC. But unlike McCain I couldn't escape learning it because I had to earn my living the hard way. Every employer started automation and I had to retrain and reinvent myself to keep abreast of times.
But forgetting that telling lies about what is going on in other countries to hoodwink Americans is not as easy as before in this era of internet is a grave mistake. It spreads fast like wild fires..
Equating the American healthcare bill to the British NHS and then calling it evil meant you were calling the NHS evil.
And that has brought a severe backlash from the British. Because it is a working system for them whether we like it or not.
Nobody wants to be told their system is evil.
I thought arrival of young blood like Palin and Jindal on the scene would have made the work of gentlemen like Newt Gringrich easier in the Republican party.
Unfortunately, the juniors too are only digging deep into the hole.
When will Republican party realize that their tips and tricks are useful only for a misguided generation of babyboomers? Their base among the new generation is dwindling.
Telling lies in this era of the internet like before will bring on a severe backlash and you will be caught with your pants down-
like telling Americans how badly the British hate their "Russian" healthcare system and how their cancer patients are dying standing in the line waiting endlessly for the "Russian" chemotherapy which will never come.
Now that the British are protesting vehemently, we will tell them another lie:
We were not talking about you. We were talking about the NHS in Mars!
Lesson learned: Never cook up things on behalf of others or things we don't know.
It is shocking that the Republican party is so engrossed in the past that they forgot to get their party ready for the new millennium.
