Lightweight cardboard
Pencil
Scissors
Pre-quilted fabric, small amount
Straight pins
Sewing machine
Iron
Kitty litter
Measuring cup
Ziplock baggie, quart size
Stuffing
Needle and carpet thread
1 Measure and trace a 9 inch square on the lightweight cardboard and cut out. This is the basic pattern piece for the sides of the pyramid door stop. Measure and trace a 3 inch wide by 6 inch long rectangle on the cardboard and cut out. This is the pattern for the loop handle.
2 Trace two door stop sides on the wrong side of the pre-quilted fabric. Cut the two sides out. Trace one loop handle on the wrong side of the pre-quilted fabric and cut out. Fold the loop handle piece in half lengthwise, matching the two long sides and pin. Sew the long pinned edge using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Turn the handle right side out and iron.
3 Place one door stop square on your work surface with the right side up. Fold the handle in half, matching the short ends. Pin the ends short ends to an inside corner of the door stop square. The handle will lay on the square, so that when the door stop is turned right side out the handle will extend from one corner. Place the other square on top of the first with the wrong side up. Pin three sides of the squares together with the handle included in one of the pinned sides. Sew the pinned sides using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Your project now resembles a square bag with the top open.
4 Open the bag. Holding a side seam in each hand, bring them together, with the right side of the fabric (inside of the bag) facing each other and pin. The pinned seams will now create the center of the raw edges on the bag, instead of the sides. The raw edge will have the folds from the center of the square on each end. This will shift the sewn squares to form a pyramid shape. Sew a 1/4 inch seam allowance from one fold end to the other fold end of the pinned raw edge, leaving a four inch opening in the center for turning and stuffing. Turn the pyramid door stop right side out through the opening. The handle is now on the outside of the door stop.
5 Fill the tips of the pyramid with stuffing. Fill the quart Ziplock baggie with 3 cups of kitty litter and close. Place the baggie into the door stop. Continue to fill the door stop with stuffing if needed. Pin the opening and sew this fun door stop closed with carpet thread.
