Sex After a Heart Attack

Can heart attack survivors enjoy a sex life as they are healing or after they have healed? Certainly they may partake in this imitate event. It's best to use precautions to safeguard themselves.

As the body is healing from a heart attack, it's always best to refrain from having sex for a few weeks. However, after those first few weeks the need for release and imitate parts of a relationship can be achieved once more.

A CNN report says to wait three or four weeks before resuming normal activities but the AHA says to wait eight weeks. One may wonder why eight weeks. Well that is about how long it takes the heart muscle to heal after a myocardial infraction according to the American Heart Association.

As with any muscle, the heart needs time to heal. Continuously pushing any injured muscle puts you at higher risk for further damage. With a sprained leg or back muscle, you may still use it, but doctors' advise to take it easy.

Our hearts are always working so it's best not to push it into overdrive while it's healing. In this case, it's better to err on the side of caution rather than face an emergency or death. Even after that cardiac muscle is healed its best to limit exercise as to not over do it.

After the waiting period of weeks are up ease back into sex, and leave the more exhausting positions to not heart patients. Using positions that do not put an unusual strain on the heart is best such as spooning, rear entry, and straddling.

Missionary position is pretty much out of the question until the cardiac patient has fully recovered, as the additional weight on their chest is not advisable. Having sex does not necessarily cause a heart attack. It's the activity level of the session, which may do the deed.

On the 4 Men.org website, there is a report on study done by Harvard Medical school, which suggests the chance of sex having another heart attack is 2 in a million. This study was conducted on 800 survivors in 1996. That statistic is double for survivors and for non-cardiac patients that percent was 1 in a million. That report also stated that the risk increased with the more life style of the patient.

If a patient has little physical exercise, their risk is increased. Active patients had the lowest risk levels, once again pointing that regular exercise is very important here. Once the cardiac doctor has given the patient a clean bill of health normal sex routines may continue.
