Sex and the City of Dallas, Texas

A SATC Fan Shares Her Plans to Celebrate the Movie's Release

With the long anticipated Sex and the City motion picture hitting theaters on Friday, May 30, comes the opportunity for many to pick up, if only for a short time, where they left off with Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbs in 2004.

From the time that Sex and the City was released on DVD, many of my female friends and a couple of guys have gathered at different homes to have our Sex and the City nights, spending the evening watching DVDs of the show until we could not stay up anymore. Our group plans to do the same thing for the opening night of the movie. However, we are going to do it different from most.

With the weather in the Dallas, Texas, area being very nice at this time of year, our plan is to get together in our cars, and drive just 45 minutes south of Dallas to one of the remaining drive-in movie theaters to enjoy an old-time twist on the new following of Sex and the City.

Our evening will begin by meeting up at one friend's home and enjoying a few cosmos prior to our departure. We will load up the cars and SUVs and with our designated drivers leading the convoy, head down Interstate 45 to Ennis, Texas, and the Galaxy Drive-In Theater. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. and the movie doesn't start until around 9 p.m., so we will have ample time to eat, to discuss what we think may happen in the movie and what we want to happen in the movie.

Our group does not actually portray the characters from the movie, but many of us do have or have had something transpire in our lives that make us feel as if we identify with certain characters. Thus, the act of calling a specific friend "Samantha" will not bother those that try to be or were Dallas' version of the seductress known as Samantha from the Sex and the City series. I personally would be a combination of Carrie and Charlotte, longing for my own collection of Manolo Blahnik shoes (or red-soled Christian Louboutins) while also finally getting the man of my dreams.

There are about 15 who participate in the group, give or take a few. There is a possibility that some may invite others between now and the time that we see the movie. However, we plan on this being something that will give us memories for many years to come.

Whatever plans you have to enjoy the Sex and the City movie, it is not hard to make it a fun experience for everyone involved. You may even find that a few men would like to tag along.

Yona, I'm going to see it next week here in Bangkok, Thailand with some Thai friends (I've lived in Bangkok for 5 years). Thailand is very conservative on many issues so it will be interesting to see the audience reaction. I wrote an article about my upcoming trip to see Sex and the City - think it's a bit different than your experience will be :-) Good article.

Great submission Yona! I also live in Texas but am in Fort Worth. I went to an early engagement preview of the movie and was greatly disappoitnted. I also submitted a review when I arrived home. I'm wondering what your thoughts and impressions were..
