Sex and the City Makes Its Big Screen Debut

Any fan of the show will tell you that one of the most anticipated movies of the year is the "Sex and the City" movie. Set three years after the series' end, this flick had a lot to live up to.

Like any movie based on a TV show, the film already has a lot to overcome. It's hard not to feel like you're watching a very long- two and a half hours long, to be exact- episode of the show with an entire season's worth of plotlines crammed into it. That's not an exaggeration; they celebrate three holidays in the movie, four if you count Fashion Week. But they pulled it off and the movie didn't feel as long as it was.

We reunite with our girls to find that Charlotte and her husband have adopted a Chinese girl, Miranda is with Steve and their son in Brooklyn, Samantha moved to Hollywood with her movie star lover, and Carrie and Big have been living happily ever after since we found out his name was John.

Of course, the happiness is short-lived and soon we see the girls face big hurdles in their relationships. Samantha is worried she might not be able to stay faithful when she realizes her whole life now revolves around a man, and when Carrie and Big decide to get married, he suffers from a severe case of cold feet after their small wedding starts to spiral out of control.

It was surprisingly well written and also well acted. Though, like any movie, there are a few things that make you raise an eyebrow. Doesn't Charlotte's daughter have a babysitter? And why does Samantha even live in LA when she spends all her time in New York? And Jennifer Hudson, really? But there's so much going on that you let all the little things slide.

Along the way, the drama is mediated by big laughs and lots of tears, all culminating with Big and Carrie's wedding. Do they or don't they? You'll have to find out for yourself. Though, I will spoil one thing: no one dies! And a word of advice, leave your manfriend at home and make it a girls' night out. You'll appreciate it, and so will he.

In the end, it can only be described as the most epic chick flick of all time. With enough twists and turns to make anyone's head spin, the movie takes us into the lives of our four favorite New Yorkers for one last Cosmo.

The story remains true to its roots, even if it is at times a little contrived. And even with all its flaws, its hard not to love it. Because it's at its core about all the things we hold dear: love, friendship, and fabulous shoes.
