Sex and the City: The Movie - The Plot Spoiler Review!

If You Don't Want to Know, Go No Further!

Perhaps premiering the "Sex and the City: The Movie" in London wasn't such a great idea. If we think that TMZ.com and Perez Hilton are the consummate gossip hounds, there's nothing quite like the British tabloid press. Here's a recap of what's been printed on the plot of "Sex and the City: The Movie":

It's ten years since we last saw Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Carrie and Big are engaged to be married. Steve, Miranda's bartender husband, has a one-night stand and confesses all to Miranda; the couple separates. Samantha now lives in California to be closer to her hunky and much-younger lover. A really ticked off and now soured on the whole marriage thing Miranda expresses dark thoughts about Big's ability to commit to Carrie - thoughts that come true when Big stands Carrie up at the altar. A mortified and heart-broken Carrie then takes off to Mexico for the honeymoon she'd planned to take with Big, but instead, it's now a honeymoon with the girls. There IS a wedding at the movie's end, however, and that particular wedding is, as of right now, the source of much debate and speculation.

If you've seen the trailers for the movie, you've already seen Carrie in a wedding gown, with her friends dressed as bridal attendants. Charlotte tells someone (Goldenblatt, her husband? the girls?) that she's pregnant. We've seen Kim Cattrall's Samantha dressed in a black wet suit, running on a beach with a surf board (OMG, Samantha with a surf board?!). The infidelity on the part of Steve the Bartender is a bit of a shocker, one that hasn't been addressed in the trailers, at least so far.

Perhaps the real stars of the movie are the clothes, much as they were in the television series. For the London premiere, Sarah Jessica Parker donned a sky-high Philip Treacly hat that was festooned with ribbons, grasses, and even a butterfly. Luckily, she also wore a charming, soft mint-green dress that offset the craziness of the hat. Cynthia Nixon wore a stunning black, floor-length pleated Calvin Klein gown that showed off her breasts quite nicely (actually, nearly all of them!) Kim Cattrall chose bright red Vivienne Westwood, with the designer's trademark skin-tight, 'slashed fabric' look, while Kristin Davis appeared in a pretty (and pretty unspectacular) dark fuschia gown. Yep, if you look at the photos from the London premiere, it definitely has been ten years since we've seen the girls. Time appears to have been kindest to Nixon and Davis. Nixon is reportedly seriously considering marrying her girlfriend of the past four years, a woman who, frankly, can't hold a candle to Nixon's luminescent beauty. (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If she's your soul mate, Cynthia, do what makes you both happy!) Davis has kept a pretty low-key profile since the series' end, and looks remarkably well-rested. (This despite her appearance in one of the worst movies ever made, whose name thankfully escapes me at the moment. It was one of those films that rank in the "made for TV or should have gone straight to DVD category". She played the wife to Matthew Broderick's character (he's SJP's husband in real life) in a holiday flick about feuding neighbors outdoing each other with Christmas decorations. Do YOU remember the movie? Didn't think so!)

Kim Cattrall has had a rough go of it since the television series ended four years ago. During the final season, her marriage was falling apart, her father was diagnosed with a form of dementia, and she'd been pretty much typecast as an aging actress fit only for "cougar" type roles. SJP herself has had much more luck than her three other co-stars combined, but surprisingly, in commercial ventures. While she filmed two movies, both were box office flops. Perhaps the public isn't quite ready to let go of Carrie Bradshaw yet. Parker developed two fairly successful perfume lines, as well as a line of clothing called "Bitten", sold at Steve & Barry's discount stores and on line. (This is the same discount store that carries Stephon Marbury's $15 sneakers.) SJP took great pride in the fact that her clothing line ranges up to size 22 and is extremely inexpensive.

When the movie has its May 30th debut in the States, it's bound to be wildly popular, no matter what the international storyline spoilers and reviews have to say. After looking at photos of the foursome dressed for the London premiere, the real star of "Sex and the City" remains fashion!

  • Miranda and Steve separated? Steve cheating on Miranda?
  • Does Big really leave Carrie at the altar?
  • Carrie does go on her honeymoon - but it's with Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte in tow!

I can't wait to see the movie. Love Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten line at Steven and Barry's as well.

I didn't know about SJP's clothing line. "Inexpensive" is appealling to me! I'll have to check it out!
